This is the only type of mosquito that can transmit the disease - due to their being infected themselves by a previous blood meal taken from an infected human. Since the Malaria parasite is in red blood cells, the parasite can also be transmitted via blood transfusion, organ transplant, the sharing of needles/syringes, or even from a mother to her unborn infant before or during surgery.  Anyone can get Malaria.
