I think the factor that students overlook when choosing a college is the freshman retention rate and quality of professors. The freshman retention rate shows how engaging and how much people really want to stay there. If the rate is low you might want to think again about college because there is some reason people don't want to come back. The quality of professors can fully decide how good or bad your year is and i dont think people look into that until it's too late.

I think the quality of professors is the most overlooked factor to students. Many people choose colleges based on location, prestige, or campus life, but they rarely consider who will actually be teaching them. A great professor can turn a dull subject into something inspiring, while a bad one can make even the most interesting topic unbearable. To figue out who the good professor are at these schools go to ratemyprofessore.com which gives info on whether a teacher is good or not.

(83)

Some factors that I think students tend to overlook when choosing a college are graduation rate and graduate/professional school options. I think many students don’t consider the graduation rate of the college which is really important. If the rate itself is low, then that's a good indicator that the college itself might not be good or too hard to complete the course all the way through. Without completing college all the way through, there is no point.

I think the most important factor to me will be money. Honestly, I believe this will be the most important to me because no one has unlimited money, and I need to pick something affordable but also a college I will really enjoy going to. I think the least important factor when it comes to picking a college will be the number of food places on campus. I think this because it wont matter to me how many food options are on the campus, It would matter to me the options and whats around it.

The most important factor for me when I go to college will be financial aid. I need to be ale to afford college, I don't want to go into a lot of debt to be able to go to college. My least important factor will be demographics. In Southern California, we already have a hotpot of different people. I'm used to being with people from every demographic, so I don't really care about demographics in college. Wheather it be mostly this demogragic, or a bunch of different ones, I don't mind it. (117)

I don't think students even think about that when going into college because they're more focused on the cost or area or size of the school. I think the quality of the professors is really important. You're there for the education and to get prepared for your career. If the professors aren't that great you not going to really understand or learn as much as you would need to.

A factor that made me rethink what I am currently looking for in a college is safety. I am thinking about going out of state or somewhere far. If I am going to move into another state all alone with no knowledge of how things are there I don ´ t really know what I am getting myself into. Am I going to be protected by crimes on campus or near campus? Especially since I am a girl going to be moving on my own. Another thing that definitely made me rethink was the meal plans. What if I have to pay a lot of money for meals that I do not like. I do not want to be eating out everyday and I want to at least try to have a healthy diet.

The factors that I think students overlook the most when choosing a college are financial aid qualification, cost and location. Some students come from a low income family where they cant support the student to pay for higher education. So the students rely on the financial aid qualification, and that's when cost comes in. If the school has a high tuition price, it scares the student and overlooks at the colleges. Location, for some I think this is also a big factor when it comes to selecting one. They want to explore their options and overlook them.

When I finally chose what schools I want to apple to I want to make sure it isn’t too expensive. If I get a diploma thats all that matter not how expensive it was to get the diploma. I think that demographics is the least important though because I don’t care who I am around and feel like I could make friends with anybody. (81)

I think students overlook transportation when choosing a college. I know some schools don’t allow their students to have their car for their first year because many freshmen have to live in dorms. However, when touring a campus students could be surprised how big the campus is. They have to count on walking around campus or using other sources of transportation. I know when we visited CSUN we saw people using skateboards, bikes, and scooters.

I think this because I've always learned a lot better when I have had a better teacher. When I've had a not so great teacher I've always found myself struggling with the work and it's always been difficult so I think this is the most important to me. The least important factor to me is meal plans because I don't really think I would get a meal plan unless it's required. I would find cheap accessible food for myself so I can have it ready to go.

Three factors from the article that stood out to me the most were jobs right out of school, course availability, and location. These factors to me are the most important factors of choosing a college because the goal after college is to get a job and choosing a college with a high percentage of students getting a job related to their major is crucial. Course availability is also major because some students are busy working part-time jobs outside of school to pay for tuition so being able to attend class at a certain time is important.

I also think they check the safety because everyone wants to be in a safe environment. And I also think they check the quality of professors because they want a good teaching professor. After all, if there's not a good teacher or you just don't like them, you're not going to enjoy the class.

Grants are when you are awarded money and don't have to pay it back. However, a student loan is when you are lent money and you must pay it back with interest. You can even get a job on campus to help me debt and / or tuition.

Study Abroad: This really interested me because I always found studying abroad and going out of the country to do your school work super faciniating. I personally wouldnt study abroad only because I was to be with people I know, but I'm very jealous of people who get to experience that.

Does the college have high-quality professors?: This stood out to me because I never really thought about it. There is 2 places I really want to go to school and that is somewhere in Arizona or Texas where it is very hot which I could deal with. But also growing up I always liked the snow and the cold so it would also be very fun to go to a school near a place I could ski after my classes. The school size I do not want to be at a small school where I know a lot of other people and a lot of people know me. I want a bigger amount of students and bigger class sizes. Lastly sports participation, is one of my biggest factors because I want to experience the college football and other college athletics atmosphere from the students perspective. In the article when it says you should go somewhere you can find work after and when choosing a major see where you can find work most. I think for me that really puts it into perspective because after college it must be hard to find work but I think going somewhere you can find work after is easier. Going to school somewhere you can find work after is good because then you can also intern there over the summer and get that work experience which makes you more competitive. (100)

If I choose a school i'm going to want to make sure its a price that fits into my budget without putting on any type of debt. I think this because this shows the percentage of freshman that come back for there sophomore year. If you look at this you can see how easy it is and how much the freshamn like it because if it is low that you may need to concider other colleges. If it is a high percentage, then this means that they are satisfied with the college and would be a good option.

These stood out to me because I think that if I go to a college that is far away from home I can't just go back and forth everyday so living on campus could be a good thing to look for in the college. Same goes for location, I'm still not sure if I want to be far away from home or if I want to be independent and explore but there is many benefits about being close and far away from home. Course of study stood out to me because I want to go to a college that has a program in what I want to major in and it's important I research each college I want to apply to so they have what I need.

Yes, some factors did make me rethink what I’m currently looking for in a college, those factors being the graduation rate and the jobs right out of school. I think the graduation rate is important to look for in a school because a high rate means many students were able to complete the course and go on to do something with their degree. Additionally, the jobs right out of school are important too because without having a job, it’s really hard to make money and start a life.

They just want to get into there dream school and go party, and if you get stuck with a bad professor and you fail the class, you could be on probation. Students also overlook the school size because if you have a class on one side of the campus and you have to walk almost a mile to the next one that would be a pain.

(92)

I think a factor most people overlook is probably safety. A lot of people want to go to big cities, but unlike here in camarillo, crime rates are higher in big cities. LA, NY, CHI, these big cities have a lot more crime than Camarillo. I think people don't take into account that their university will be in these areas, and that outside the university is a whole different world. (90)

The 3 Factors that stood out to me were Admission rate, Graduation rate, and school size. The reason these factors stood out to me was because Admission rate could sorta give you and idea of does this school accept a lot of kids or is it harder to get into. Graduation rate stood out because people want to go to a school where many people have graduated from. The reason for this is because people don't want to spend money just so they wont graduate or their professor sucks. Lastly, School size stood out because that's gonna determine how many students are in your class and if you don't like a lot of people you should look for a smaller school.

This stood out to me because I learned that having a good alumni program can help you not only in college but also outside of college. The next factor that stood out to me was spirituality, because I learned that some schools have you sign a spiritual contract. Lastly, the third factor that stood out to me was working students. This stood out to me because I learned that schools will offer work on campus for students to do and encourage it.

The 3 factors that stood out to me the most were studying abroad, Transportation, and Cost. The reason I chose those 3 factors as my most important was because one I love to travel and throughout middle school and high school I grew up moving a lot. However, I enjoy seeing different places and cultures. That's why I would consider choosing to study abroad or maybe just going to a different state. Another important factor would be Transportation if I were to get there how would I get from point A to point B. That's something to think about; I could save up for a car to help me get to places faster and more efficiently. Finally, the third factor is Cost. Growing up cost was always an important topic and thing to worry about in my family. So, I would love to either receive a scholarship, get a job or save money to help the cost of college or university.

It is interesting to see the retention of students to a college and how many of these students actually complete the full program over the course of four years. Knowing that I never really thought about it before makes me think that others don't either. Making sure you have good quality professors is important because you want to ensure that you are getting all the knowledge you need and that you write down the right info. You dont want to have a professor who is struggling and / or doesnt have a clue what their teaching is super frustrating. Even if the teacher knows what they are doing and just doesn't teach it well, you want to make sure you don't get one of them. Looking into the college professors is something people should prioritize more. (121)

These stood out to me the most because I've never really thought to hard about these and never looked into them that much. I think they're a really big important thing too look at considering they're big things towards your college life. Course availability is something that is good in a college because you could be working a lot and need a flexible schedule for school even though it will be tiring. I've never really looked into how many people get a job right after school because it's something I never thought hard about but it is something important because if the rate is low that would be a school I wouldn't consider going to. This also goes towards how many freshmen do come back after their first year because if the rate is high then that means the school would be good and people really do like the school considering they're coming back.

I think a lot of students tend to forget why they are in college in the first place and pay attention to things like party schools. I think the cost is something almost everyone struggles with. Money has a lot of value and you would want to take the least amount out of your pocket so it's really important to be safe with your money and spend it on the right education.

I think most students forget to think about the college’s alumni network when they are choosing a school. An alumni network is all the people who graduated from that college, and they can really help you in the future. They can give advice about jobs, recommend you to companies, or even help you find internships. A strong alumni network can make it easier to start your career after you graduate. Most students just look at the location, the sports teams, or the dorms, but they don’t realize that alumni connections can make a huge difference later in life.

Freshman retention rate is the percent of freshmen students that return for their sophomore year. The least important factor for me is Greek life participation, I'm not really interested in joining any sororities in college because they don't interest me and i think I shouldn't be worried about it when I go to college.

I believe what will end up being the ultimate deciding factor for my college choice is going to be the cost. This is because a lot of schools are very expensive, and with the benefits you get towards your tuition with being in AVID, it could make a smaller schools tuition almost free for me, because of that it influences if im going to go to a expensive dream school right out of highschool or if I will go somewhere cheaper first. I think the least important factor for me will be where its located because me personally I dont care how close or far away I will be from camarillo.

For example, I know that some colleges like CSULB,CSUCI, and UCLA have really good nursing programs. I want to learn more schools in California that also offer the BSN. I plan on just looking at colleges that I’m already familiar with and researching on their websites for the majors that they offer.(88 words)

Course availability to me is one of the most important because it'd be good to know what programs I can take during the day and what programs I can't take. If I want a certain program I'd want to see whether the school provides the program and what time during the day. Location is another big factor for me because where you go to school can affect how your mood is and how comfortable you'll be when attending the school you chose. Lately, the quality of the professors is very important because nobody wants a bad professor. If you'r paying to attend a certain school then you want to make sure the quality of your education is the best you can get.

On a day to day basis are you going to be eating out? Or are you going to be eating the food that is provided for you. Another thing that I think students may overlook is the freshman retention rate. It is important to know if all freshmen that apply there actually stay there all 4 years. It is also important to know what the average income is after graduation.

Students will blindly try to apply a school they think they can get into and expect to get in when they don’t take into account their GPA and extracurriculars. I also want to make sure I'm looking into a school that will make it easy for me to study abroad, not one that will make it super difficult. I don't want to have to pay extra for it. First, graduation rate, it doesn't matter if you go to college if you don't graduate; it's something I didn't really think about until the article. Second would be the freshman retention rate; if students don't come back to you after their first year, then there must be a problem with the college. I didn't know about this term until the 33-factor article. Last would be jobs after college; college doesn't matter if you can't find a job for what you studied. If the college helps, great; if it doesn't, then less great. You should look at the percentage of people who find a job after the college they went to; the higher it is, the better it is for you. I hadn't realized that there are so many students in a classroom and it would be hard to communicate or have one-on-one time with your professor. I think that is truly very important because the professors are the ones that determine your grade. If you have a bad professor you aren't going to enjoy the class which will lead to worse grades. It also really sucks when teachers can't teach. There are some very bad teachers out there and most students overlook that. I believe that they are thinking that no matter what professor they get they can ace the class or get a good grade when reality is that if that class is really bad you're more likely to get a bad grade or have a bad experience with that class.

If I could get into a college using financial aid, it would be great because I wouldn't have to worry so much about the cost of things in college, such as books or other things I need.

The factors most students overlook when choosing a college are transportation and jobs right out of school. In college, some schools don't allow freshmen to have cars on campus. This can be difficult for students who want to go out and are new to the area and don't have a way to get around the city. Another factor students overlook is jobs right out of school. When choosing your major, think about if the job will exist after you finish school. (81)

Many students say they want to attend a big college where the classrooms are big and packed. That's why researching and finding out what is right for you is important because you never know before it's too late.(82 words)

I think that factors that people overlook the most when choosing a college are the school size and quality of professor. I always knew that college campuses are generally really big and have many students, but I never thought about it past that. Big campus = more students = harder to directly talk with the teacher. As someone who likes to ask questions to the professor, I would choose a college with a small campus or at least not a lot of students. I think that quality of professors is another factor that is overlooked because I forget that teachers have varying years of experience in their subject. For the majority of my high school classes, I’ve had well experienced/knowledgeable teachers, so to me it’s just a given that my teacher knows what they're talking about. It’s not surprising to me that I forgot that there’s always a chance that I end up with a teacher who doesn’t actually teach or know what they’re talking about.

When I go into a class, I expect the teacher to be very experienced and knowledgeable on the topic/subject they are teaching. It’s easy for me to take for granted the amazing teachers I’ve had throughout the years and forget that there’s a chance I can get a teacher who knows nothing of what they’re teaching, so I would like to double check the quality of professors of a college before I apply. However, something I won’t be checking on is spirituality since I’m not a very religious person so it doesn’t really matter to me what religious beliefs the students/staff have.
