         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Geographic setting</strong></div><ul><li>The Silk Road connects East Asia to the Mediterranean</li><li>The Silk road is considered to go all throughout Eurasia (many different branches)</li><li>There were many different competing routes which were alternative to the silk road which were used when the conditions on the silk road weren't ideal. The silk road is a very broad term as if all factors are considered it covers most of the Eurasia area.</li><li>Throughout the course of history, countries boundaries began to from and change. When talking about the silk road, it is difficult to refer to modern day countries as some didn't exist back then and some didn't share the same boundaries as they do today</li><li>The term Eurasia is often used to refer to the geographic setting of the Silk Road, because it is easy to understand the boundaries of it due to the physicality's of them<ul><li>Oceans, Seas, etc.</li></ul></li><li>The peninsula (includes modern day Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, mainland Malaysia) had fertile land that was ideal for rice growing</li><li>Narrow Strait of Malacca (between modern day Malay Peninsula and the Sumatra island) was a route which was ideal for sea travel as it was easy to navigate</li></ul><div>Source of Information: <a href="http://asiasociety.org/geographical-setting-silk-roads?page=0,5">http://asiasociety.org/geographical-setting-silk-roads?page=0,5</a></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
