Eight incarnations of the festival have been held in Rio de Janeiro, in 1985, 1991, 2001, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019, eight in Lisbon, in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018, three in Madrid in 2008, 2010 and 2012 and one in Las Vegas, in 2015.

Rock in Rio is one of the largest music festivals in the world, with 1.5 million people attending the first event, 700,000 attending the second and fourth, about 1.2 million attending the third, and about 350,000 people attending each of the three Lisbon events.

In 2022, two editions are already confirmed. After 4 years without Rock in Rio, Lisboa will host the 9th edition in 18, 19, 25 and 26 of June at Bela Vista Park. Already confirmed at World Stage: Foo Fighters, Liam Gallagher, The National, Black Eyed Peas, Ivete Sangalo, Ellie Goulding, David Carreira, Duran Duran, A-HA, Bush, Xutos & Pontapés, Post Malone, Jason Derulo, Anitta and HMB.

Later this year, days 2, 3, 4 and 8, 9, 10, 11 of September Rock in Rio is taking placing in Rio de Janeiro. Names like Dua Lipa, Post Malone, Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Iron Maiden, Guns N´Roses, Coldplay, Camila Cabello and much more already confirmed.

It's a great opportunity to see and hear your favorite artists live! You will also have a chance to meet new artists, you may not have found otherwise.

But music festivals are also unique in the risks they present to attendees. Attending these large events is associated with an increased risk of injury and, in extreme cases, death. Worldwide, nearly 70,000 people suffered significant injury and 232 people died at approximately 300 outdoor music concerts held over a 10-year period, one study found.

Music festivals are also hotbeds of criminal activity. Attendees are faced with the prospect of falling victim to theft, drugs, violence, and sexual crimes.

In short, music festivals are events for fun but always with great care as they are also extremely dangerous.
