         <description><![CDATA[<div>Personal: Daniel Wilt<br>Edgar Allen Poe was born on January 19, 1809, and died on October 7, 1849. Poe never really knew his parents because his father left when he was young and his mother died when he was 3 from tuberculosis. Poe went to Virginia to live with two successful tobacco merchants, John and Frances Valentine Allan. He was a brilliant poet by age 13, but John discouraged him from poetry and wanted him to work in the family merchant business. When Poe went to the University of Virginia, he excelled in all of his classes, but had to leave because he was in debt. When he returned, his fiance had become engaged to someone else. Heartbroken, he moved to Boston to start his writing career.<br>Academic: Joshua<br>Edgar Allan Poe went to England for school when he was 6, and learned Latin, french, math, and history. Allan got Poe an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was kicked out for the poor handling of his duties.<br>Professional: Carley<br>He began writing his short stories in 1835 and became the editor of <em>The Southern Messenger </em>in Richmond where he moved with his aunt and cousin, Virginia, who is 13. Throughout the next ten years he would edit a lot of literary journals including <em>The Gentleman's Magazine. </em>In the next three years he officially named himself a poet, a short story writer, and a editor. He has published some of the best known stories and poems. His most famous was “The Fall of the House of Usher”, “The Tell Tale Heart,” “The Murders in the Rue Morgue.”</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Personal (Cameron Vu):<br>He was born on January 19, 1809 to traveling actors. Both of his parents were dead by the time was 3. He was adopted by wealthy tobacco merchants after that. He showed interest in poetry ever since he was young. His first fiance, Elmira Royster, married another man while he in Virginia. His next wife, his 13 year old cousin Virginia, died when she was 24 because of tuberculosis. After that, he went back to Elmira Royster and they became engaged. Before they got married, he died because of unknown causes when he was 40.</div><div><br></div><div><br>Academic (Audrey Ku):<br>Edgar Allan Poe went to Virginia University in 1829 and excelled in all the classes there. He didn’t receive enough funds to pay for all the costs though. So a year later he had to leave the University. He moved to Boston and joined the army U.S. army.&nbsp;</div><div><br>Professional (Athan Hrousis):<br>Poe self published his first book, “Tamerlane” and some other poems in 1827.&nbsp; Two years later he published his second poetry collection, Al Aaraaf, Tamerlane, and other minor poems. As a critic in 1835 to 1837, he published some of his own works in a magazine, including two parts of his novel, The Narrative of “Arthur Gordon Pym”.</div>]]></description>

He had a brother and a sister and was raised by foster parents. He got married at the age of 24 to his 13 year old cousin. He died a mysterious death and the age of 40. <br><br>Academic: Amrit Dhaliwal<br>Edgar Allen Poe went to a school in England for 5 years when he was 6 and studied French, Latin, Math, and History.&nbsp; He then went to the University of Virginia for a year. He later enrolled in West Point Military Academy in which he got expelled. <br><br>Professional: Aryan Raikar and Steven Cain<br>Edgar Allen Poe was a masterful artist of various types of writing like romanticism, mystery and macabre, and even was considered the father of the detective fiction genre and science fiction which are now desired immensely among our generation.&nbsp; He was the first American to be known for living off of writing alone, and was constantly barraged with copyright infringement strikes making his writing career an even harder goal to achieve. During the summer of 1893, he took a major step forward and became the assistant editor of an influential magazine at the time called <em>Burton’s Gentleman's Magazine </em>writing and publishing numerous interesting articles, stories, and reviews initially raising the ratings of the magazine. In June 1840, he started his own magazine called the <em>The Stylus </em>and it blossomed into a successful magazine with its amazing articles.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>
