How does analyzing functions relate to motion? What are some common misconceptions?

Relation: It is important to remember that f(x) = s(t) position, the first derivative f'(x) = v(t) velocity, the second derivative f''(x) = a(t) acceleration. The absolute value of the first derivative function is equal to speed.

Misconceptions: One of the misconceptions regarding analyzing functions come from the name "First Derivative Test" & "Second Derivative Test"; giving the impression that they will solve for different things. The two tests will both solve for relative extremas, they are just two different methods of finding them. For the second derivative test, if f'(c)=0 and the second derivative at c is positive, then f has a relative min at x=c. This can be confusing as one regularly thinks positive= maximum, but that is not the case.
