The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes gives me nostalgia and reminds me of when I was younger. Going deeper into the meaning of the word deferred made me understand this poem much better. When I was smaller and still I had dreams of where I would be when I was an adult or what I'd be doing, because I really did not know. So this reminds me of my kind of hopes for myself that I had when I was little and how I interpret those "dreams" today. I don't think I'm old enough now to really have an actual dream deferred but this is how i interpret it at my age.

"Harlem" by Langston Hughes makes me think of both regretting not going after your dreams or being happy of how things have turned out for you now that you've moved past them. When I was younger I was planning on taking gymnastics more seriously and I wanted to go somewhere more with it but now that I'm older, I've moved past that idea and I'm just focusing on doing it for fun. And at times I regret not going further with it because I'll see some of my old teammates doing so good and it makes me wonder if I would've made it that far, but for the most part I'm happy that I didn't go further with it because I think I'm much happier now than I would've been otherwise.

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of parents. Both of my parents had to put their dreams on hold for their families. They both dreamt of pursuing higher education and finding a career in a field they had a passion for, but they also really valued their family. Due to this, they both had to put their dreams on hold so that they could work and provide for their family and siblings education. Eventually, the longer they kept their dreams on hold, their dreams started to dry out, like the line in the poem, "Does it dry up, like a raisin in the sun?"

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of my parents because of the sacrifices they made for me to have a better life. One of those sacrifices was having their dreams deferred. My parents never talked about their dreams and aspirations with me, but I would assume it is much more than what they are currently doing. I think the line "Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?" resonates the most with my parents due to it being so long ago, I don't think their dreams are remembered or thought about at all, as if they dried up like a raisin would in the sun. Though I do wish for them to keep pursuing their dreams, I also understand the need and want to prioritize family over that.

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of a college wrestler named Spencer Lee because he is really good and a 3x NCAA champion but after that he got injured and as he was trying to go for his 4th NCAA championship his senior year he was beat by an underdog named Matt Ramos and had to forfeit out the rest of the tournament so his dream was postponed but he is still serious about going pro or being an Olympian and he still has a really good chance of doing that.

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of the disney movie The Princess and the Frog. Tiana has a dream of opening the restaurant that her dad dreamed of opening. She gets good at cooking when she's younger and when she becomes a young adult she works multiple jobs to save every last penny towards this restaurant. This is where her dream is deferred because life and money got in the way. At the end of the movie she gets closer to opening her restaurant and is way happier. One of the quotes in the poem is "maybe it sags like a heavy load" which is similar to this story because she carried the weight of the restaurant her entire life.

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes makes me think about how one of my oldest sisters always dreamt of being a forensic psychologist, however her dream was deferred because she's still in college to make this dream reality. I think the writer is trying to express that deferred dreams sometimes become forgotten about or unaccomplished, however just because a dream is deferred doesn't make it impossible.

The poem “Harlem” reminds me of the movie hidden figures. It relates to this movie because both of these story’s come in terms with the characters dream . Walter Lee , beneatha , and Ruth all had a dream of different things that aligned with what they wanted in life . They all needed money but that didn’t let them stop them for giving up on making that dream come true . Just like hidden figures they experienced racism and other issues that got in the way of them completing their dream but that did not stop them from becoming 3 of the first greatest women to be apart of nasa.

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of my life during sports. One of these sports is Basketball when I'm playing basketball do I stop and not take that shot in the game to put my team up , do I get nervous and pass the ball and let my teammate score and see what happens. The days I'm off and don’t feel like hooping , Do I let the pressure of being starting point guard get to my head who knows and who doesn’t what to do get to me. I still always go through the challenges head first and just play my heart out even though I want to relax and give up. At the end of the day i don't let my intrusive thought take over i still take it on head first show up and put in the work and get things done.

The poem "Harlem" reminds me of times in my life when I would feel doubtful . This connects to the poem because I think it describes the process of feelings when a person feels unsure or lacks confidence in accomplishing their dreams or making it happen. There was many times in my life where I felt like doing something but blocked myself from doing it because my doubtful thoughts made me overthink and I would think of any negative scenarios that could happen. I think overthinking is a common way people's dreams get "deferred" because they will start to loose hope in their dream.

the poem "Harlem'' by Langston Hughes reminds me of some of the ''basketball'' players at Chief Sealth International High School, sometimes when they get the opportunity that don't take and and seize the moment. At times they would turn the ball over freeze up get scared not be themselves and lower there mindset so they won't be the confident player they could really be. People over look the opportunity and over think in the moment, also another example is me ever since I broke my leg my passion has be postpone I felt my lowest and my love for basketball was on hold for a little while, but now that I'm up I can get back to what I love.
