The Pride march wa a great chance for LGBTQIA+ students and staff members from across the University to come together, socialise, and celebrate. This highlighted the university as being a safe space for queer students and staff as we were supported by allies across all levels of the institution!

Most people have made friends through their accommodation but I have missed out on that opportunity. Even now we're halfway through semester two I still haven't made any friends, I speak to people in my seminars but that is as far as it goes.

The attendance of my peers also significantly impacts my sense of belonging. There have been multiple occasions when no more than two people have shown up. I know from someone else's viewpoint it may seem like this shouldn't bother me but knowing that their contribution could potentially impact my grades means that it does. Their attendance doesn't only impact group work either, sometimes the tutors cancel seminars due to low numbers and even when they do take place there are limited people to engage with. I think to overcome this issue for myself and others the university should have an attendance policy in place and if you're below say 75% you shouldn't be able to submit assignments. As some people blame the times of their sessions for why they can't attend there should also be an option to build your own timetable. The times I do try to contribute, a seminar tutor cut me off mid sentence which was discouraging for me.

Moving in 
Move in day, I was more excited than anything, the day I had been waiting for is finally here. Once I had moved in my room felt homely and cosy however, when my family and boyfriend left I felt quite sad and alone, realising I’m now in my own. On that night I did see I had one mutual friend from home so I met up with her and went on a night out to try make some friends. 

Induction
Induction week I thought was good for getting to know your module and the uni itself such as the library. However, for getting to know other individuals in my course it didn’t really help to make friends as it was more of the teacher talking. 

Semester one 
I thought that semester one was really helpful for introducing students into their course and what uni will be like. It was great to get to know other students on my course in seminars. Although, I did have issues with some tutors with language barriers which made it increasingly difficult to understand the topic while trying to be able to learn the content, meaning I was left on my own to teach the majority of the topic to myself. 

First assessment 
My first assessment went quite well I understood the topic and the assessment  was only worth 30% and it was an online exam which was easy to access and submit my work 

Socialising 
Freshers week was really good to meet people, socialise and party. No complaints. However after the first three weeks it started to die down. 

Semester two 
The start of semester two was great, nice to see everyone again and get back into a routine. However, this term we have a larger workload than last term meaning it was harder to adapt and get used to but didn’t take long to get back into uni life. 

First lecture 
My first lecture was intimidating as it was so full and in a large lecture hall. Although I did have a friend to walk in with which made it easier. The lecture itself was helpful to introduce me into the topic and uni expectations. 

Sports 
I know there’s a lot to offer however I haven’t joined any myself 

Societies 
The same as sports that I’m not too interested in societies but I’m aware it can be a good way to make friends.

I was working a typical office job at a firm that produced windows and doors. Wanted a little more excitement in my life and when I saw a couple of my mates going off to uni, I thought I’d hop on the ship.

Moving in wasn’t too bad, I liked the idea of having some independence and moving away from home so I didn’t have many troubles regarding homesickness. Hit things off with my flat mates, settled in relatively quickly.

As far as I remember the induction week was fine. It gave me a reasonable understanding of the course and what my experience was going to be like study wise.

Semester one wasn’t too bad, I’ll say it was more work than I expected, for some reason I had the idea in my head that it was going to be a bit of a breeze, but there was definitely some struggle there. However I passed my modules so I’m happy.

Tougher than I thought, in BIA it wasn’t too bad as it was a group project and I prefer the active style of assignments as opposed to writing an s.a or whatever.

Definitely difficult to balance social life and working life in uni, but I’ve managed to get by so far, I imagine I will have to knuckle down a little more in second year.

Not too bad, my attendance was a little sketchy at the start due to issues with work and at home, getting on top of it now.

Lecture was alright, set me on right path for the course.

Not getting on with your flatmates can leave you with little room to make friends as it seems that after the first few weeks, everyone has their own friendship groups. Societies are an option however there is a limited number of societies at LBU, if there isn’t one that suited you then you can feel as though they’re worthless. Even during seminars, friends can be made however these relationships seem to only be a situation where you talk during seminars, not outside of these. Or at least I have experienced this during my time so far.

Business in Action module I do not like it , the fact that you are confined to work in a group with other students whom I don’t know n not compatible with , I just do not like to work in a group I prefer work on my own , especially a group which you did not choose it yourself to be part of it,. Fortunately you get to be accessed individually.!!!

So far there’s nothing exciting nor fascinating to brag about studying at LBU .

Fortunately the minimum passing marks are not so high , I am just going to try to just pass over the passing lines, especially Business in Action, Accounting also I don’t like it  .

Additionally on the foundation course it included an Economics Module ,I did well on that module and I really like it , I was hoping level 4 Business Management would have and Economics module as well, Business Management with Economics it does seem I went through on the wrong path .

Leeds Beckett university are very understanding in terms of their students and they are aware of factors which may affect them. I learnt that the purpose of university on a broad scale is to widen student’s independence as a whole, if you miss your lectures, you have to catch-up, your success and failures are solely down to you which is considerably a deeper metaphor for life after university. The assessments are great in my opinion, the marking is based on how constructively you can put forward an argument in a cohesive rational tone, your own voice is heard. I have dyslexia so this means I get extra time and certain other arrangements. I have a plan with the university that was forwarded to my tutors but they still have not been aware and I have had to keep reminding them about extra time for assessments and exams. My spelling should not affect my grade either and I feel some staff aren’t aware of that. For tests I have had online, for example multiple choice I haven’t had the extra time that is required and I shouldn’t have to keep asking for this to be done.
