Nietsche was influential because he composited all these ways of breaking out of constrictive and proper norms in art. 
Prostitutes surrounded by all these men and how it is a psychological experience and that during that time everything is for sale. Even the woman's bodies are for sale. 

It refers directly to Nietsche. The bridge from civilization to Uberwanch. Marcel belongs to this group of American artists. They felt that the jury was too single minded and only liked traditional work. They didn't accept his work in the show. They said it was not art. To him, he felt that since he is an artist and signed it, he said how can you say it is not art. It is irreverent and he didn't make it with his hands, and lack of skill. 

Was challenging the idea of what is saying that art is not about the product, it's about the idea.

Dada focused on absurdity, element of chance. 
Reaction against WW1. (Enlightenment values of logic and reason only led to war) Challenged status quo in art, culture, etc.

Was an area is Barcellona. It's about prostitutes. In this painting, he is trying to break as many rules as he can from the past. We can't even really read the shape. His shape and line is not consistent. His modeling is either not there or weird. It doesn't really make sense. If we think of space, we want to see a background and foreground. However, those are like the body shapes so we can't really tell the foreground and background. He is breaking rules of perspective because the woman's back is towards us but her head is towards us so we are seeing them from many points of view from the same time. Some are laying down and some are standing up. All distorted spatially. The group of fruit reminds us of Cezanne. He's looking at Matisse who is experimenting at color. Another influence is African art. 

Nude and art has always been something beautiful and these are confronted and they don't let us gaze at them nicely and their faces are really distorted. Their faces are derived from African masks and looking at ancient art from Spain from the archaic period.
