         <description><![CDATA[<div>One of the things that could be a obstacle to successful teaching of engineering is the idea that engineers have to use tools like power tools or some other things that require "getting your hands dirty." Of course it does beg the question of how,you define engineering in k-12, but most working engineers never put their hands on tools of that type in their work life. It is a false impression, one that can perpetuate the gender barrier in engineering.<br><br>Laura Bottomley</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>What we do:</div><div>The Tufts University Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) is a leader in supporting efforts to integrate engineering into K-12 education.<br><br>The four divisions or pillars of <strong>Outreach</strong>, <strong>Products</strong>, <strong>Research</strong>, and <strong>Workshops</strong> all contribute toward the goals of:<br><br></div><ul><li>increasing student and teacher excitement for learning STEM;</li><li>improving student and teacher skills so learning is more enjoyable in all subjects;</li><li>increasing the general public's technological literacy; and</li><li>increasing the awareness of the importance of STEM for society.</li></ul><div>Our motivation stems from our fundamental belief that the skills we help students develop are closely connected to the transformation of our physical world into a world with improved excitement for learning, higher quality of life, better health, and greater environmental responsibility awareness.<br><br><a href="http://ceeo.tufts.edu">http://ceeo.tufts.edu</a><br><br>Action Plan:<br><br></div><ul><li>Short Term: Create a PD for K-5 teachers on Engineering Education Practice.</li><li>Mid Term: Live Broadcasting/Videotaping the PD so that teachers can access the information anywhere.</li><li>Long Term: Add a interactive map on our website with pins where there are teachers doing Engineering in their classrooms. Pins would have contact information so teachers can contact people in their area for help and support.<br><br></li></ul>]]></description>
