The five beaches were called Omaha, Utah, Juno, Sword, and Gold all of these had poor landing conditions but with weak defenses. General Dwight Eisenhower and the General of the American troops chose to land at Omaha and Utah  because they were the most difficult to invade. The British landed at Gold and helped the Canadians at Sword. The Canadians landed at Juno and Sword. The Allies eventually take over the first German town and Hitler responds by trying to cut off the Allies supply lines.
