The compromise of 1850 was a series of laws passed by the U.S. Congress in an effort to settle several outstanding issues regarding slavery. In particular, the North and South disagreed over whether slavery should be allowed in new states and territories. The compromise of 1850 acted as a temporary truce on the issue of slavery, primarily addressing the status of newly acquired territory after the Mexican'American war. It established a boundary between Texas and the U.S., called for the abolition of slave trades in Washington D.C, and amend the Fugitive Slave Act.
