The imagery in the novel is very strong because Shawn is paralyzed and is taking everything he sees around him in. One of the most strong examples of imagery is quite comedic in that he is describing the way that people who think he is mentally challenged speak to him. "When people first meet me, they usually do their Anne-Sullivan-Meeting-Hellen-Keller-in-The-Miracle-Worker routine." (Trueman 55)

The main conflict of the story is Euthenasia. This is when a parent of anyone wants to kill someone because of their disabilities or struggles in an attempt to end their suffering. Shawn believes his dad wants to kill him but he doesn't know for sure. Since he can't properly talk or move, he can't express what he wants to say about the subject. Trueman realistically represented Shawn's disabilities and how they get in his way of figuring out if his dad wants to kill him, and how it

After all of his thoughts being documented about his dad trying to kill him, the reader is left off to infer whether Shawn died of a seizure or not. This was not fulfilling because the problem is never solved, instead the author decides to kill off the main character. This makes her seem lazy because she doesn't think of a solution, just a problem.

Since Shawn has nothing better to do than think, some interesting situations are explained. This book is much like The Fault in Our Stars because the main characters suffer from a disability. Warning are that there is some explanations of death, cuss words, and talk about disabilities and retardation that some may find offensive.
