The feudal sistem was established: the French baron obtained their land by becoming the king's tenants and they pay their rent in military services. They built castels to demostrate and keep their power. William the Conqueror claimed to be lord of the land and his central authority became stronger. That power was demostrated on Domesday Book, 1086, a record of a survey wich gave the king detailed information on the country he now possessed. The Normans replaced English with French. Latin remained the main language in legal, administrative, ecclesiastical and intellectual contexts
