Journeying to a new land will help us discover new or more recourses that could potentially be used to trade with the East. We need navigational items to get to where we want, if we didn't have any we could end up off course and start heading backwards if the boat were to be turned around. If you're a humanist imagine finding a whole new land and discovering it for yourself. Instead of having someone else find out the truth where they could actually potentially butcher what would be true and make others believe their lies. Imagine owning a whole new land. That land is yours, you discovered it, so that means you own it. If something like that were to happen you would receive a larger amount of coins. If a casualty were to happen then the family of the sailor would receive money depending on how much work had been done on the boat while they were alive.
