The best way to be absolutely 100% sure you or your partner will not get pregnant is by practicing abstinence. "Abstinence can be difficult for some people. Women and men need to be clear about their reasons to stay abstinent. If you are tempted to have sex, it helps to remember why you made
the decision to be abstinent in the first place" (page 8). Eventually most people will chose to no longer be abstinent, so it is important to be educated on birth control and how you can protect against STD's and unwanted pregnancies. "According to the HHS Office on Women's Health, the male latex condom is the best method for protecting against STDs, including
HIV/AIDS" (page 9). Before chosing a bith control it is important to consider a few things:
"• Your overall health
• How often you have sex
• The number of sex partners you have
• If you want to have children someday
• How well each method works to prevent pregnancy
• Possible side effects
• Your comfort level with using the method" (page 9).
Neither birth control or condoms are perfect, but they can greatly reduce the risk of getting pregnant and contracting STD's.

In 8th grade I took an elective health class and one week we had a guest speaker come in and talk to us about drugs, alcohol, sex, and other related topics. Towards the end of the week she told us that she was a teen mom. She shared her story with us. She said that when she found out she was pregnant she was terrified. She had no idea what to expect. She said that it put a whole new set of challenges in her path, but she was able to overcome them. She said that looking back now she would not change a thing, but at the time she was scared and unsure. Now she helps people that are in similar situations.
