Original Bad Poem Reflection

This assignment was an example of independent work, creative work, and a writing assignment. I chose to include the “Original Bad Poem” assignment in my portfolio for the reason that it was the homework assignment I enjoyed the most and had the most fun with. It was interesting to try and figure out what to write about and what to say with it. I decided to write about an electric pole because it seemed the most spontaneous to write about. There was a little bit of difficulty in figuring out what to say without repeating myself. It is an electric pole after all.

This assignment is important because it showed me that I do have a lot to say. This can help later in life because I will always know there is something more to say, also helping me write better and voice my outlook better. It also showed me that I can be creative when it comes to writing and my own life. And it was enjoyable because it was different. It was something outside of the classroom yet still for the class. I also learned that I have a broader vocabulary than originally assumed. It helped me grow as a writer and discover more about writing. Like forming sentences together to create a clear image of something. I learned this because it was my choice in what to write about and how to write it. And it was not an overwhelming essay or big paragraph or anything. It was a simple poem that everyone had fun with and it eased the stress in the class.

Literary Analysis Project Reflection

I decided to include the literary analysis project in my portfolio because it covered multiple requirements. This project was an example of Individual work, creative work, research work, and writing work. This assignment was pretty difficult to accomplish and figure out how to manage. This project took me a long time to try and figure out how I needed to manage my time and get things done at a nice, workable pace that did not overwhelm me. I did not do a good job of time management. I worked on this project sporadically and never consistently. This is important because this shows me that is something I need to work on.

Time management will help me later in life like in college when I'm assigned a big project in one class and homework in other classes. It will also help me when I have kids and have to figure out how to get them different places. This project is valuable because it showed me some of my weaknesses and also some of my strengths. For example, a weakness it showed me is my poor time management. A strength it showed me is my ability to pick out key information from a story and write about its importance. I enjoyed the challenge this project introduced and I think the grade that I got is what I earned. I could have done better if I managed my time, however.

"The Night the Ghost Got In" Project Reflection

This project was an example of class work and creative/collaborative work. Wyatt, Jordan, and I all had a difficult but joyful time working on this project together. We worked very hard on it in class, even though it was a struggle, putting it together, and giving it those final touches. We also worked on it outside of class doing filming and figuring out what needed to go where. This project was included because I really enjoyed working with my group and also with other people that volunteered to help us film and fill up the scenes. This is important because it’s good to have fun working with people; It helps keep the stress level down. It helped me learn that it can be very hard to work with people on group projects that are given with little direction by the teacher. When it comes to deciding what to do and how to do it, there will be some altercations and discussions. This lesson is important because I can't expect everything to go perfectly. People have different opinions and ideas, and this will be very important to remember when I go to college and I'm exposed to so many different people and backgrounds.

However, working with a group is not that hard. If one is willing to listen to what the others have to say and find some middle ground between ideas, you will be able to get through with minimal friendship loss. This is valuable because I grew slightly closer to the people I was working with. This could also help in the future going to college, because I may get put into a group with people that I don’t necessarily have a close relationship with. If I apply all these ideas, such as middle ground, common ideas, and understanding, it will be easier to get through the project together. We laughed with and at each other, and occasionally got annoyed with one another. But in the end, we produced a good project with some hilarious memories behind it.

Poetry Unit Test Reflection

I chose to include this test in my portfolio because it is something I did not do good on. This test is an example of an assessment and individual work. I did poorly on this test and I wanted to show something that I did not do great on because, well, nobody is perfect. I did not do good on this test because I did not study as much as I should have for it. I underestimated the amount of information I was given and at home, I did not set enough time aside to study sufficiently for this test. Instead, I worked on other homework and watched TV over studying more. This is important because I realized that I'm not as much of a sponge for information as I thought I was. I learned that I do need to study more for bigger tests and make sure I have the information for it down.

his is a valuable lesson because when I'm in college, I will not have the option to have laid back days or days to slack off. I will have to constantly work and plan my time to work on homework and studying for upcoming tests and quizzes. I will also have to focus more on taking better notes and organizing them how I can understand them. I need to figure out what helps me study and figure out a way to make myself study; although failing should be inspiration enough.

Mercy and Justice assignment Reflection

The Mercy and Justice assignment was an informal writing assignment. It is an example of individual work, writing, homework, and research. I included this assignment because I thought it was an interesting and thoughtful writing opportunity. This assignment required me to write two paragraphs over the definitions of Mercy and Justice, as the title suggests. I thought it was intriguing how there were so many different definitions of two words based purely on your world view. My definitions were close to the Bible's definition of mercy and justice because I try to look at life and people the way that Jesus Christ taught us to.

This knowledge of knowing how people decide their own definitions for flexible words will be very valuable to me in college. This will force me to think outside of my conservative upbringing and face difficult ideas people confront me with. It is also a valuable assignment because I voiced my thoughts on what the definition of a word should be based on my understanding of it. This shows that I can think for myself and can determine things on my own. This assignment will also help remind me how to treat people and not let me forget the "private school rich kid life" that I came from where everyone knew everyone.

Dial Vs. Digital Reflection

The “Dial Vs. Digital” assignment was a thought inducing homework assignment. This assignment is an example of individual work and homework. I enjoyed reading "Dial vs. Digital" because it made me think of the different terminologies we use on a daily basis. For example, "check my six," is a phrase used by people that means "watch my back". This is because when both people are facing the same direction where they are facing is considered 12 o'clock and behind them would be 6 o'clock. Without the use of a digital clock, we would have no use of this phrase. Nor would we have any idea what it meant so it would not exist. Granted this is easily replaced with "watch my back," there are many more phrases that would be hard to replace. This assignment is valuable because our world is advancing and some phrases would be considered unknown because the story behind them is lost.

The "Dial Vs. Digital" assignment will help me in the future because it is a big example of change. There will always be change, nothing will stay the same forever and that is something one, including myself, has to accept. The short story "Dial Vs. Digital" is a small example of change but it is still a good example. Knowing that there will be change and that it will come in all shapes will help me understand that in the future. I am one that wants things to stay more or less the same and change is hard for me. This is valuable to me because I will be prepared for change.
