What kind of writing will help your readers reach that understanding?

For example, I am writing about T. Sandy. I want my literary sketch on her to show that she is caring, hardworking, and wise. I hope to do that by telling clear, short anecdotes about her; and writing some of our shared memories. I saw this in the sketches I read about Maya Angelou and it helped me get to know her as a person. I hope to do the same for T. Sandy.
