As a teacher, I can see myself using this text with older elementary students into early middle school.

Simon explains the role of tectonic plates, seismic waves, and other technology used to measure and make predictions of earthquakes.

I personally like Gail Gibbon's books for students because of the vibrant illustrations. Showing and reading books with such captivating photos is the best way to keep students engaged during instruction time.

This non-fiction young reader text is part of a series called "Earth Processes" that introduces students to the concept of erosion and how it shapes planet Earth. This book is engaging and educational for elementary students learning about Earth science. The breakdown of the book is the explanation, the causes, the impact, prevention and management, and engaging features of erosion. This book is a great way to introduce the process to students and spark curiosity about other natural processes by linking science to real world examples on their level.

The book highlights types of rocks, minerals, fossils, earth's processes, fun activities, and real-world applications. Zoehfeld puts this information into student-friendly language for comprehension purposes.

In the future, I could use this in my classroom if I was teaching 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade!

In the same series of "Tornadoes!," this text is another engaging and informative picture book to introduce students to the science, history, and impact of hurricanes. With her clear explanations, language, and detailed illustrations, Gibbons once again gives students a great resource to learn about natural disasters. She focuses on what hurricanes are, how they form, their anatomy, categories, impact and safety, and tracking hurricanes. Additionally, she mentions famous hurricanes in history to deepen the connection and give context to the power of hurricanes.

Part of the "Look Inside" series, "Wild Weather" discovers multiple kinds of weather from droughts to tornadoes. This engaging and detailed book is not only full of great educational text but also 50 hands-on flaps to lift. Books with manipulatives are always the most engaging for students, especially ones who learn best through hands-on. The main focuses of this book are the factors that influence weather, extreme weather events, the science behind it, their impact on the world, and some engaging features to make learning exciting!

This non-fiction text is a student-friendly introduction to the world of rocks. The book is in simple explanations accompanied by vivid images to explore the diversity of rocks. Rosinsky begins the book by introducing rocks as natural materials that come in varying shapes, sizes, colors, and textures. Explaining how rocks can be hard, soft, smooth, rough, shiny, or dull. These characteristics are important for students to hear and learn about so they can start making their own observations in nature. The text explains how rocks are formed and the uses of rocks in daily life for a deeper connection for students.

This text would be great to use with early elementary students to spark curiosity and observation!

Down Comes the Rain gives a concise and engaging look into the stages of the water cycle. Using engaging and relatable images, this text draws student interest for a deeper understanding. The language used in this text is very student-friendly and simple for comprehension and application. Vocabulary is bolded throughout which can introduce the students to text features and their role in understanding text. The vocabulary is also included in the glossary along with an activity about the water cycle!

I am excited to use this series in my future classroom.

Wildfire! is a fact-based picture book about the ins and outs of a wildfire. This book is great for elementary students of all ages as it explains a forest fire, how animals survive, how heroes respond to put it out, and how life in the forest returns afterward. Including illustrations and a story-like style, this book would capture student's attention and interest on an educatioanl topic related to natural disasters.

Again, a favorite! This edition of the series teaches about the issue of climate change in the most engaging way. Always fun and always educational, the book focuses on the causes, effects, and possible solutions to global warming. This time, Ms. Frizzle takes her class on an adventure to learn about the science of climate change. On their journey, they focus on how human activities affect climate change on the planet. The group sees the effects of climate change including melting glaciers, extreme weather events, and rising sea levels. The students grasp an understanding of how using renewable energy, conserving resources, reducing waste, and planting trees are all ways they can play a role in helping the environment.

Earth! A great text to introduce the history of Planet Earth to young elementary students. This text is great for blending humor and student-friendly facts with science into an entertaining read-aloud. This story is written from "Earth's" point of view! In my opinion, this is such a fun spin on things for students! With an exciting introduction to personification, this text is written from "her childhood" which was more than 4 billion years ago, all the way until the present day. The focus is in earth's biography (it's formation), major milestones, fun facts, it's "personality," and environmental awareness. This text can be read in a fun storytelling perspective to teach science at the children's level.

This fictional picture book is an engaging story about a curious and imaginative boy. Through humor and ethos, the story focuses on teaching the importance of caring for the Earth and its people.

The book begins with a welcome to planet earth presenting it as a place of beauty, diversity, and curiosity. The story highlights different aspects of life on Earth like cultures, landscapes, animals, and people. Emphasizing kindness and empathy, the characters portray the possibilities in our shared human experience. The illustration creates a gentle, accepting, respectful, and loving feel to the story.

I like this book and the idea of using it in my classroom one day in a science unit because it focuses on unity and how much of an impact we make on our planet! This is all very important for children to understand and be exposed to first hand.

This story is a fictional text written from the point of view of a girl growing up on a pineapple farm in Mexico. Not only does this book teach young readers about the discoveries of change and transformation in our world but it teaches all of this from a culturally diverse perspective! Using beautiful illustrations and a fictional storyline, this book will captivate students' interests. While introducing new vocabulary, including some Spanish, this text is a great cross-curricular tool for the classroom. From discovering change we cannot control like natural disasters and loss to some environmental change that we can control or impact. "Magic can transform dirt into pineapples, seeds into trees, wool into blankets, words into stories, blank pages into pictures and stories into book."

I am very excited to have found this text and to use it one day!

For older children or middle school-level students, this fascinating and fictional book takes young readers into the process of decay. Books like this are great to incorporate into a science unit as it grasps student attention and enhances understanding with engaging plot and illustrations.

I chose to include this book in my annotated bibliography because I can see myself using such a text to break up instructional time to help regroup and keep the students on track. This story uses engaging content, encourages inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, diverse topics, visual aids, and is a great discussion starter. This book presents scientific concepts in a relatable manner which makes it accessible for students. Introducing a book like this can help maintain interest and enthusiasm for learning. By exploring the "why" behind scientific concepts, students will be encouraged to think critically and exercise their reasoning skills. Working on this questioining, curiosity, and other skills will help the students as a whole to have a deeper learning experience.

She learns that water is sacred and essential to our daily life and devotes her life to defend it from anything that could harm it. This is another great, culturally diverse text that brings in a cross-curricular view. The story highlights the cultural significance of water in some indigenous traditions. Focusing on themes of unity, activism, and hope, this story can inspire young readers to understand their role in protecting Earth. Emphasizing this importance to children is very important.
