About your critique, I would like to share some thoughts with you considering that we asked the same question to AI. Firstly, I totally agree with how AI missed the importance of the learner’s context. In the chapter, some factors that can influence the effectiveness of early instruction are presented, including aspects from outside and inside the classroom. Secondly, we share the idea that the chapter gives a more complex and well-supported discussion compared to AI. While in the chapter many authors, theories, and hypotheses are mentioned to support the information and explanations provided, AI does not mention the authors in which its answer is based.  

As a suggestion, I believe it would be important to emphasize AI’s assumptions. For example, AI uses the Critical Period Hypothesis as a solid argument for early language instruction, while Shin & Crandall (2014) highlights the lack of evidence to support this hypothesis.

However, I love your final conclusion and how you explained that giving a general idea can be both a benefit and a limitation. Therefore, I will leave you a question for further thinking: Considering the growth of AI, do you think that teachers should incorporate AI in their classrooms? If so, how can they do it without jeopardizing students’ critical thinking?

Personally, my classmate and I also thought about it too and concluded how AI can provide some ideas to start something but without taking for granted everything it says. Because relying solely on AI-generated responses may result in a superficial understanding of intricate discussions presented in academic texts, or maybe we can just believe everything AI mentions without checking the sources (which may not be trustworthy at all!).

One thing that stood out to me was how the AI didn’t fully acknowledge older learners. The chapter explains that while young learners might have an advantage in pronunciation, older learners can still reach high proficiency with the right conditions. It also didn’t emphasize how teaching quality and exposure are just as important as age when learning a new language.

In this case, we asked a different question to our Al platform, but I think it is important to note that on our critiques we both noticed how AI missed certain ideas that are relevant for the question asked.

I agree with you on your perspective of using AI to create a summary of the text but not as a replacement for the reading. In this context, I think you could have been more specific about what were the different perspectives you could find on the text based on various authors and their works, considering that we used a different chapter and did not have the same understanding of the reading’ content. That way the reader could understand better what were you referring to!

Also, I liked your consideration when mentioning how the use of AI for academic purposes can work as a limit for our understanding of a specific subject.

I was reading your portfolio, and I decided to share my reflections with you because I'm very interested in the topic you discussed.

I totally agree that the AI's response aligns with the text, but it leaves out details that are essential for fully answering the question, such as the importance of learners’ context when learning English at a young age.

It is very important to consider the learner´s context when learning English or any other language. In my personal experience, it was very difficult to catch up with my level of English at university. I constantly felt behind, and it was because my exposure to English had been very limited in my educational context.

I visited some portfolios, and we all agree that the AI's response is too general and it's not enough to have a complete answer. It is proved that AI-generated responses cannot replace reading the original texts, as they often lack accurate and reliable information.
