In response to question 2 - I just highlighted the line connected to the movie The Beautiful Mind about striving to find an interesting question to ask - the critical and first stage to mathematical work. I struggle with this every week as I am making up Math Journal Prompts. I have bought sets of pre-made ones but always end up making up my own because I want it to relate more to my class experiences. It is always interesting to to see the ones that kids get really excited to do and the ones that they fly through. Could they make their own prompts?

In response to the third bullet point - our Core frameworks have so many standards that are based on calculating skills. Adding and subtracting fluently within 5 than to 10 for example. I have been addressing these with lots of practice with reading number sentences and solving them, number stories, and many other activities. I work on building fluency in these activities - any thoughts on how I can meet those standards but provide more opportunities for 1,2 and 4? I'd love to talk more about daily math journals and how maybe we can incorporate this idea into daily practice.
