The story for the reading center would be "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle. A large, visually engaging wall display with the illustrations from the story would be arranged in order. With each page having a section for the animal and color, helping children connect the characters with their specific colors and names.A small table with coloring sheets featuring the animals and colors from the story. There could also be blank sheets where children can create their own animals and color them in different shades, reinforcing the story's themes

The staff members want to use the print in the classroom environment to support children’s understanding of routines and expectations, to help them independently identify and organize materials, and encourage communication. They want the print to act as a tool for improving comprehension of daily tasks, making connections between words and images, and promoting emotional expression by putting words with feelings. By integrating print throughout the room, they seek to create a supportive framework that helps children engage with their environment and communicate more effectively.

I expect the children to actively engage with the materials, using the animal and color pages, and sheets to retell "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" in their own words. They may also sequence the pages and create their own versions of the story. By repeating the story and interacting with each other, the children can recall events, practice new vocabulary, and become familiar with the rhythm and structure of the story.

Retelling a story is important for language and reading development because it helps children solidify their understanding of narrative structure like the beginning, the middle, and end and it improves their memory and sequencing skills. It also supports vocabulary acquisition, as children use language to describe the animals and colors, reinforcing their comprehension of words and concepts. Also, retelling encourages children to become more confident in their communication skills and enhances their ability to express themselves creatively.
