One of my favorite characters of American History is not an American at all. A lover of liberty and a friend to the enslaved this Frenchman not only fought alongside and led patriots against the British to liberate the American Colonies during the American Revolution, but afterwards attempted to dismantle slavery by trying to convince the early leaders of the our nation (e.g. Washington, Jefferson, Madison) to abolish the institution not only from American society, but from their own personal plantations. He later brought these ideals to France and drafted the Declaration of the Rights of Man which aided the French in a revolution of their own. Much of his life was spent in prison during the French Revolution. This person is important to me because he was a fighter for justice and the liberty of humanity from tyranny.

Dr. Martin Luther King jr. was a civil rights activist born on January 15th 1929. he won a Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality. he was an amazing role model for the people of his time but something I did not know is that he has been to jail around 29 times. he is the only non president to have a national holiday in his name. In 1963 became the first African American to be named Man of the Year by Time Magazine. his last public speech actually foreshadowed his death in a way. “ like anybody, I would like to live a long life… I'm not fearing any man. mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”

Ben Franklin is a good historical person that fits. He found electricity which shapes america today. Electricity is used all over the world and without it we would become primitive. I chose him because i use a lot of electricity and without him i wouldn’t be able to go to school right now because we went virtual for the first week . He is the ‘founder’ of electricity and the person on the 100 dollar bill. A staple of America. I chose him because when he went outside with a kite in a stormy night, hey that rhymes, he was very curious on what would happen, in which i myself am a curious person.

He was our first president of the United States of America and was the chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. His heroic actions shown during the american revolution as he led forces against the British and came out victorious causes me to become more interested in learning about his upbringing, his family life, friends and enemy's, and any other major causes that led him to becoming a national hero. I am also interested in all of his accomplishments and awards that he had won or claimed. But aside from all of the battles and victories he had acquired I also want to learn about his retirement on Mount Vernon and what had happened in his last years before he passed on December 14,1799.

Laura Cornelius Kellogg was an activist and a pioneer in native american rights in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. She was one of the founders of the Society of American Indians and was also an author, an orator, and a policy reformer. Unlike other white owned Indian rights organizations that pushed to “save” native americans by forcing them into a different culture, the SAI fought to preserve the natives rights. Though she also had a few conrtiversial opinions she definitely left a mark on america.

A historian I think deserves to be shared with the class is Ruth Bader Ginsburg. RBG did a lot of progress to give women the rights we have today. For example In 1972, Ginsburg co-founded the Women's Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union. In 1973, she became the Project's general counsel. The Women's Rights Project and related ACLU projects participated in over 300 gender discrimination cases by 1974. She was the first woman supreme court leader and was not afraid to be in a room with many other men. RBG means a lot to me because of the way she treated gender equality. She was a role model to many people and her tragic death recently truly showed the effect. Ruth bader Ginsburg once wrote “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made” That quote of hers summed up her power.

During the Crimean war, Florence brought a team of 38 volunteer nurses to care for the British Soldiers fighting. In a time like now with a Global pandemic and health crisis, I believe we should appreciate her as she is the founder of modern nursing. To me specifically, Florence Nightingale is important to me because she created a lifestyle and way of saving lives. Many of my family members including my own mother and aunts are all nurses today. This changed me and the way I was raised and I believe that the more we learn about this figure and her founding of nursing, others may become more appreciative of these lifesavers.

Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban The inventor of trenchesnchanged the game of war and how they were fought. These trenches were a way to dig in against the other fighters and they used them for protection and sacrificed mobility.	They later used them to dig in artilirty to shell the enemy and provide support if they were to move on the enemy. But the first use of trenches was low craw spaces and muiltupule fox holes and they would place wood at the bottom of these trenches for stable firing.	But where it went in full force was the big pushes on the westurn front WW1. They turned trenches into living corders firing positions, food courts just small towns in roads of trenches.
