The most evident and recent is about the COVID-19 virus, which had sparked a worldwide pandemic. A large majority of people were infected and economies were forced to halt during the first few months of the outbreak. This had a great impact on both First and Third world countries. Each country had its ways of dealing with the said virus and its effect on the masses.

Some countries were able to rise back in less than a few months, while some countries almost lost their economy. Some invested right away in proper health care guidance, on what to do when they caught it, how to avoid it, and why you should most like believe and prevent it. It is still an ongoing battle for every country, but it shows how good governance can make it better for the sake of the people's well-being.

I also have a love of learning the different cultures and traditions around the world, so I think that not only will I learn from my course but also have fun along the way.

They say that knowledge is the most powerful thing that you can posses and I believe this to be true. Ever since I was a kid I have always wondered how the world works and as I grew older these pondering thoughts have given me a revelation that understanding how the world works not only gives you clarity on worldly issues and subjects but also makes you understand more about yourself and those around you.

As a person who currently has some passion towards cryptocurrency, I recently read a while ago that the U.S has surpassed China on the amount of Bitcoin that is being Mined. Bitcoin is a crypto currency or digital currency that records and generates different types of transactions using mathematical equations. Crypto mining is a method of earning crypto currency by using either your computer or server to help solve various mathematical equations. Basically, Bitcoin mining is the process through which bitcoin is awarded to computers solving complex problems. However, these systems consume vast amounts of energy, which is available cheaply and in abundance in China, though often from dirty sources like coal, which is at odds with China’s climate goals. This has then led to various attempts by the Chinese Government to crack down crypto mining and even banning it from the country, because of how dangerous it is to the environment.

However, Hope is restored for Chinese investors and miners since that the U.S provides not necessarily cheap bills of electricity but low enough to actually make a living-off crypto mining. The U.S isn’t the only country that offers safe havens for crypto miners, places like Kazakhstan and Norway are also subjects of migration for struggling crypto miners. But recently data was shown that almost 22 percent of all the worlds supply of bitcoin is being generated through the US servers, though this may be good for people investing in crypto currency, we must look at the bigger picture which is the fact that this is very harmful to the environment. The U.S currently doesn’t have any laws prohibiting or lessening the crypto mining activity in the country; however, I think that it is only a matter of time before it becomes a problem not only to the U.S but to the whole world.

I'm always curious so I like to try a lot of things, what's funny is that I can't choose what to do because of this reason too XD

I never thought of taking International Studies. My sponsors introduced me to this course as there is no Political Science( my dream course) in AdZU. But I didn't regret choosing BA INTS. I feel like I'm destined to be here. Hoping this will be my mindset until I graduate..

Why do you think it's important to learn how the world works:

So that we won't become ignorant. I think we are all learners in this world. The reason for the society, the people to grow better is to understand everything. And by understanding is by learning how it works. We are all in constant change. But how sure are we that we are changing for the better? if we won't learn?

Journalists Maria Ressa, a Filipino Co-founder of Rappler and Dmitry Muratov, Russian, won the Nobel Peace Prize 2021. The two were brave enough to stand for the right, stand up for the truth in a world where democracy and freedom of the people is adversely increasing. Ressa and Muratov deserved the peace prize as they're both fearless defenders of freedom of expression of their own countries.

Nobel peace prize is a prestigious prize awarded separately in six different fields, Chemistry, Physics, Physiology or Medicine, and Literature. "It is given to those who have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses"- Wikipedia. We should be grateful that journalism can be a great power to express our rights. And we should salute these people who can stand up to fight the lies or abusive power the higher ups could hold in their countries and the world.
