He wanted a colony and tried to buy the Philippines from Spain but failed. After, he funded the expedition of Henry Morton Stanley who mapped the Congo, then developed railroad, steamship and trading stations providing me the ability to control the country. My goal was to get rich off ivory but found the Congo was rich in wild rubber. At the beginning of the 20th century Congo was the most profitable colony in Africa. Word got out that he enslaved many people forcing them to harvest rubber through a terror campaign. After many anti-colonial riots and rightfully calling out King Baudouin of Belgium, he was called a communist by America and Great Britain. He was then killed (1961) by a group of Congo mercenaries right after they tortured him and made him eat a piece of paper with his own speech on it.
