This collage shows my progress within my sketchbook prompts. I started off with my artwork being messy and looking unfinished in the top drawings. After developing my smart skills of shading and proportions, my artwork got better and looked more finished and had better shading.

By practicing line weight and contour I learned that the line weight of artwork plays a big role in perspective, and it can make it look more realistic. Contour lines can help you know where to start in your artwork and are important for detail.

What I learned from Heather Hanson's work was that artwork involves the process too and not just the outcome. Then, we scribbled in class using markers, crayons, colored pencils, or chalk. What I did was first I used markers and scribbled on paper then I used chalk outside. What I learned about artist thinking was that movement plays a big role in creating artworks like Heather Hanson's.

We learned that a still life is a realistic sketch of different objects together. Techniques for still life composition include shading, proportions, and movement. The item I brought was a mini volleyball because I play volleyball. My planning was focused mainly on angles and scaling.

I chose to draw a pumpkin patch. It shows what I learned in line weight by the thickness of the crevices on the pumpkins and the vines. This was my first project. The critique and rubric showed I did well on creative ideas and I needed to work on filling space.

My object was a mini volleyball. Techniques I applied were shading values and proportions. I learned from this project that shading plays an important role in artwork. The critique and rubric showed I did well on shading and details and I need to improve on filling empty pace. I revised my work by continuing to darken the shading as I went on.

In Art 1 this quarter, I have learned about line weight, shading values, and contours. So far I like the class and I think it is well paced and the projects are fun. I have learned that I need to take my time on my artwork and pay attention to small details. I have also learned that leaving empty space makes an art piece more boring. In Q2 I want to improve on being creative in art and adding more to my projects.
