A capacitor is an electronic component that stores energy in the form of an electric field between two conductive plates separated by an insulating material called a dielectric. This storage is temporary and is released when needed into the electrical circuit. The capacitor capacity is measured in farads ((F)).

There are two main types of capacitors: fixed capacitors and variable capacitors. These two contain different types of capacitors, including non-polarized and polarized capacitors for the fixed group, and adjustment and compensation capacitors for the variable group. But how do they work?

These systems typically contain two conductive plates. These plates are usually separated by an insulating layer. Due to the different needs in different applications, various types of capacitors have been designed, each suitable for specific purposes.

it begins with two pioneering scientists, Ewald Georg von Kleist and Pieter van Musschenbroek, who separately discovered the fundamental principles of the capacitor in the mid-eighteenth century. Kleist, a German clergyman, and Musschenbroek, a Dutch physicist, described their experiments on storing electric charge in what would become known as the Leyden bottle.

1. Limited voltage range: Each capacitor has a maximum voltage that should not be exceeded, as it could damage the dielectric and cause failure.

2. Limited capacity: Although they can store energy, their capacity is much smaller compared to batteries.

3. Energy losses: Some capacitors, especially electrolytic capacitors, have current leaks that reduce their efficiency.

4. Temperature sensitivity: High temperatures can degrade the dielectric and reduce the life of the capacitor.

5. Size and cost: High-capacity capacitors can be bulky and expensive, limiting their use in certain devices.
