As the number of U.S settlers began to rise, the Tejanos living there began to get upset. After further inspection of the issue, the Mexican government began to place some unfair laws on the people to stop the trouble, like paying taxes and banning further American immigration. Texans were enraged at this, and revolted against the Mexican government in an effort to be released from Mexican rule. After many battles, such as the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto, the Texans finally gained independence. The American government feared tension with Mexico, and America was divided over the idea of unbalance of representation of slave versus anti slave states in the union.
