One quote that supports this claim is, "Today's young adults have grown up in an environment in which news about political events has been increasingly more avoidable and less shared than in the past. When CBS, NBC, and ABC dominated the airwaves in the 1960s and 1979s  their extensive coverage of presidential speeches, political conventions, and oresudenf debates frequently left little else to watch. As channels proliferated over subsequent decades, it became much easier to avoid exposure to politics by switching the channel." (Chapter 1 pg. 6) We have grown into a society and generation that avoids things because they are too scared to face the truth of what is happening. In thinking that we can ignore it, we blind ourselves from the truth. We are given the option to not view the problems in our worls by filling our mind with pointless shows like Keeping up with the Kardashians and the Real Housewives of whatever city is on. We choose to not educate ourselves with the things that truly matter in our world around us. We are more concerned with how to do the best makeup or the best nails instead of involving ourselves in the politcal aspect of society. "Those who participate in government politcal process are more likely to benefit from government programs and policies. Young people often complain that the elderly have far more political clout than they do" (pg. 5). When you participate, you are more informed of what there is as an American can benefit from. Many do not know because they do not pay attention or take time to learn about what they can recieve with their rights and citizenship. The elderly may have more clout than the young because they take the time to learn and be an active member of society. "We can legitmately wonder what the future holds" if young people "remain as uninformed as they are about the government affairs" (pg.4). If young people are ignorant and naive to the world around them, then the political and economic world may crash.
