The Cold war was a strong tension between the U.S and the Soviet Union. they both wanted to spread their beliefs for the government. The U.S wanted the world to follow Democracy where the people get more freedoms and more choice. The Soviet Union wanted the world to follow Communism where the government makes all decisions. this lasted for 45 years until officially ending in 1991.

Who won the Space Race is a complicated question. When the competition first started they tried to put a satellite in space for spying on the other side. The USSR won that with the Sputnik-1. Then another challenge arose with trying to get a human on the moon. The U.S won that with the success of the Apollo mission.

There was many ways the space race created competition between the U.sS and the Soviet Union including:

It related competition in the beginning then the Soviet union said that they could put a satellite in space faster than the U.S

When the soviet union had the accomplishment of sending sputnik-1 into orbit it only angered the U.S more.

Another way was after sputnik was launched there was a new challenge of getting a man on the moon, another competition.

Some major technologies were made and upgraded during the space race, including:

The IBM during the Apollo mission was just being built and used more often. But now uses a different math calculating machine that IBM was originally bought for. They both serve the same purpose for NASA.

Headsets were used to communicate with the astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. They were wired and looked a little different in being wireless and more reliable or durable. Both models did the same thing for NASA in making communication easier

Satellites in general were used a lot back then to take pictures and spy on the other enemy. Satellites now are used for cabling networks and a backbone for cell phones and other technologies like that. Satellites are still being launched today from NASA and now have teams aboard them to make our wifi and cable service smoother.
