The Corps got into trouble when they took the Indians horse, so they were detained for the time being. After waiting to speak with chief and gave up their belongings to be on good terms with them, they had a feast with all the Indians.
I think the Corps felt kind of scared due to the fact they were detained and they had to give their belongings to the Indians. Meanwhile, the Indians felt in power. They could've honestly killed them if they wanted to. I think the attitudes of the Corps was starting to be iffy if they kept wanting to explore. I think the Indian's attitude was nothing less than good.

It had been raining for a long time and the Capt. went out for some fresh air. While he was outside in this big flood he heard Windsor screaming for help. I suppose he slipped and fell from the rain. The capt. had to help him get back up. I think Meriwether felt kind of scared for Windsor because he really could of been in danger. I think Winsor felt really worried because he was hurt, he was struggling. I think this made everyone's attitude negative about the expedition because nothing good is really happening.

The Corps were going up the dismal swamp which is very narrow and steep. They were riding horses and since its so swampy and steep, a couple of horses rolled over and tumbled. The corps and horses were all starting to get very weak now. Once they had seen some indians, the indians seemed please to see them BUT there was no translator to help out! I think the people who were recording felt nervous because the horses were not being able to transport and if the horses aren't doing well then I doubt they are. I think this made the Coprs attitudes just more and more negative because they keep having so many obstacles. I think the indians were pleased to see them just maybe stressed that they couldn't communicate and always have a hard time.

So, it's still continuing to rain and the Corps are hungry . They (R. Fields, J.Fields, Meriwether Lewis) decide to hunt for for 9 pigeons and a fine buck which they dine on. The next day, the Corps are all feeling very soar and weak from their ride yesterday. Meriwether says he is now determined to tie the horses together and they would stand and defend them or sell their lives. Then they arrive at the river to see their canoes, in the cave they found bear skins, fur and baggage that belonged to the men. The things that kind of survived was the corn, flour, pork, and salt. Then they found a head capt, and 3 men who were with him. They saluted and had a gathering. Ruben Fields chased an Indian and took 2 guns, following this he killed the Indian. I think the person writing this journal felt very overwhelmed and just waiting for something good to happen. I think the Indian didn't see the death coming due to the fact they felt so powerful. I think now the attitudes of the corps is more positive due to the fact they seen the head capt. and found some type of food. As far as the death, I know other Indians will find out and will be angry which is bad for the Corps because they were starting to have a good relationship with them
