I think that athletes should spend at least 1 year in college. Coming straight out of high school could hinder their potential in the NBA or NFL because athletes will not be used to the high level of competition. If they stay in college for at least one year, then athletes can develop more skill and be more used to high level of competition. Also, if athletes are forced to stay in college, then the colleges will make money. With all the money the colleges make, they should pay players at least a little amount for their play and for making the teams popularity increase.

Another reason is that athletes would want to play extra years in the NBA or the NFL.

The article states "Even though the eligibility rules are cloaked under the protection of collective bargaining agreements, I believe these restrictions should be struck down by courts as antitrust violations". In the article, it states "The result is that college football and basketball are de facto minor leagues for the NFL and the NBA, which have created eligibility rules that are designed to protect the value of their brands and ensure that both leagues retain a free minor league system. " This quote shows that the NFL and NBA are trying to let the NCAA make money off of its players and also create a let players develop.

In Another hand they should got to college and have a back up just in cases if anything happends to them will they are playing in a team.

NBA and NFL rules are not creating a trust-like environment because these industries are not providing viable options to pursue a professional career upon graduation from high school. The NFL won't allow players to be drafted until 3 years after they graduate, and there are also age limitations for players in the NBA. These restrictions are "antithetical to the capitalistic American marketplace."

Athletes that dream of playing in the NBA or NFL should be forced to spend time in college because graduating as high school basketball players or high school football players doesn't provide them the option to pursue a professional career in America. However, as stated in the article, "College is, therefore, the default choice for players wishing to pursue a pro career in football and basketball. The result is that college football and basketball are de facto minor leagues for the NFL and the NBA, which have created eligibility rules that are designed to protect the value of their brands and ensure that both leagues retain a free minor league system."

Major League Baseball most definitely has a more "player friendly" system for drafting new talent because when it comes to monetizing their skills, "at 18 years old they can enter the draft, be drafted, negotiate, and then if they don’t like the offer they can go to college and be redrafted again several years later." It is indeed the ideal model since it allows players to assess their worth and then decide from there.

It is possible that a socioeconomic/racial barrier still exists today, but it is unlikely. According to the article, "By and large the American kids of all races turning pro in baseball, hockey, golf or soccer are from higher socioeconomic classes than those playing football or basketball...The majority of the American athletes in all of these sports also happen to be white. Meanwhile, the substantial majority of the football and basketball players with professional potential being forced into college are from lower socioeconomic classes and the majority of the football and basketball players on campus with pro potential are black." Athletes of both the majority and minority are being represented in the professional leagues, but it may still be an minor issue depending on the coaches and the industry itself.
