I believe arts should be integrated in the classroom for many reasons. The first reason is because incorporating music into the classroom and lessons is proven to boost test scores. Students are more likely to focus and pay attention to a lesson when music or the arts is involved. If the students are paying better attention, then they are more likely to earn higher test scores. Another reason arts should be integrated into the classroom is because it helps to build a stronger classroom community. The arts are a safe space where students can collaborate and socialize. If the students are given a space to socialize with each other, then they will become better friends, peers, and support systems for their fellow classmates. Building community in the classroom is important, because it allows for students to feel safe, welcomed, and able to learn. There are many more reasons why the arts should be integrated into education, but these were the two that stood out to me.
-Chandler Smith

I believe arts should be integrated into the classroom for these two reasons. The first reason is that incorporating movement/dance into the classroom is proven to have children be more active in learning and engage in each lesson. We can also incorporate movement with tidying it with a lesson such as math, science or language arts. For example, if we are doing a science lesson we can incorporate movement by doing the song/chant Aiken Drum and having each student tell me a food source and tell me if it is healthy or not healthy. If the students are having fun and enjoying the lesson at the same time they are using movement to not just sit on their desk the whole day. Another reason arts should be integrated into the classroom is that it is proven to make students more creative. They will have this idea that even the teacher would not think of. So, I would consider these two main reasons to incorporate arts in education for student's education. But these are not the only reasons why there is plenty more to make children's education more fun and interactive every day.
- Adriana Davila

Arts should be integrated into the classroom for numerous reasons. Music and dance have both been proven to be beneficial for students learning when added to the classroom. Music not only creates a positive learning environment but it also helps students with memorization and gives them a chance to let loose and feel more comfortable in the classroom. This is important for creating a unified classroom. Music and dance also gives students the opportunity to express themselves in ways they usually can not in a typical school setting. In a typical school day, students are mostly sitting down, but it is important to have children get up and moving throughout the day to get their brains actively working. As we learned in class, music, and dance can be incorporated into lessons in many different ways. Art can also be used to introduce a new lesson to students. Not every student learns the same way, and music and dance offer a different perspective to satisfy students' needs. It transforms a basic lecture into something that gets students engaged in the lesson, while also having fun. These are just a few reasons that I found to be important about why arts should be integrated into education.
- Deena Elwi

I believe that arts should be integrated into the classrooms for many reasons. The first being that it is fun. Education in elementary schools has turned away from being creative and more into lecture style classrooms. Children are loosing the opportunity to be creative in schools. Not only if it fun but it can be helpful in assisting to teach other subject areas. BY integrating arts you can integrate other subjects into a music lesson, a dance lesson, an art project, etc. Students learn the best when there are multiple ways of retaining the information. So if we keep the arts we are keeping not only creativity in elementary schools but we are keeping many ways for children to learn the subjects that will help them get into colleges in the future. By incorporating the arts you are allowing a creative outlet for students who need it and for students who are curious about what else school can offer them. You also might be allowing students to tap into a skill or passion they wouldn't have even known about if arts weren't allowed in schools. The arts is an incredibly beneficial thing to schools and communities it helps create a strong community environment, helps students learn in. many different ways and it helps student use their creativity. There are many reasons that arts should be integrated into education but these are the few that really stood out to me.

-Sophie Metee

The incorporation of Arts in education is very important and often schools overlook the valuable role it can plays in the the classroom. This approach to teaching allows all students to express themselves creatively and ultimately gives them the opportunity to grow and reach their full potential. Also, it has been proven that allowing students to be creative in the classroom enhances the overall learning environment and increases student achievement. One main benefit of arts integration is that it sets as well as builds a foundation for critical thinking skills that are very effective for students as they pursue their careers. One thing that I have also learned is that arts integration creates an equitable learning environment for students. An example of this would be how it’s a new opportunity that allows students who have trouble with a certain subjects to express and build on their knowledge in a different way (through arts). Also, it does not have to be costly to integrate arts into education. There is multiple ways to get resources and help by creating your own instruments or looking online for music. The great thing is that students will most likely be excited about participating and learning through this method.
- Camila Kelly

I believe that integrating the arts into education is necessary to help students develop their gross and fine motor skills. Especially in younger grade levels, it is important for students to move around and release energy and learn how to properly develop their muscles. The arts can also help students express themselves creatively. The arts often contain lessons that have some portion of improvisation and this helps students use their imagination and forces them to be creative. The arts can be incorporated simple ways, like opening a lesson or as a transition. The arts can also be incorporated in an entire lesson and bring in other subjects like math, literacy, science, and history. Overall, the arts have many benefits and should be incorporated in education.
-Frankie L.

I believe that integrating the arts into education is significant because it allows students to express themselves creatively and helps develops important skills. Arts in education allows students to express themselves creatively because students can communicate learning through art. Some students express how they feel through drawing and painting, which gives them the opportunity to express their ideas and thoughts. Furthermore, it helps students develop important skills such as motor and social skills. Students have a lot of energy so it is important to have the students moving around to release some of that energy. Also, integrating art into education is fun for the students. Many students love to play with art and like to experiment with the colors. For example, many students are curious to see what happens when they mix colors together and see what color it turns out to be. This could be a lesson for the students and have them come up with scientific theories of their predictions on the colors. Overall, I believe integrating art in education is important and beneficial.
-Verna Hiedo

There are many reasons why the arts should be integrated into education because it allows students to be creative and allows physical movement. Creativity is important and in arts education students are allowed the opportunity to do so. They can show their creativity by painting or drawing their feelings on a peice of paper. They can also show their emotions by dancing or doing body movements that match their mood. For example when Dr. Potter had us walk feeling happy, sad, and excited. Physical movement is incorporated in many ways and students need this every day and having arts education is a great way other than physical education to get students to be active. This also helps with not having students sitting for a long period of time. Having the education of arts will be very beneficial for students because there are many creative ways to integrate the subject.

-Jazzlene Beltran

It can make learning core subjects like math, science, language arts, and social studies more fun! Another reason I believe that the arts should be integrated into education is because it gives students a chance to explore their creative side.

Integrating Arts into students’ curriculum is important for many reasons, and I believe one reason is they get the opportunity to learn as they move which can happen using locomotor or nonlocomotory movements. Locomotor movements involve the students moving themselves as a whole from one place to another and nonlocomotory movements meaning learning as they move, but remaining in the same location. The students spend long hours at school and having the time to move around and learn as they do is a fun way of learning. A second reason why keeping Arts is important is that it is a great way to build a strong community. The children communicate with each other, demonstrate their creativity, learn to be sharing, show teamwork and all while having fun and learning.

- (MM) Marisela Mungia

Students are able to use the arts to help them make connections in math, language arts, science, geography, history, as well as physical education. Since children naturally love art, movement, and music, it can become a natural funnel for integrating other areas of learning" (p. 5). Another reason why it should be integrated into education is because it is fun! When students are taught with fun methods, they want to learn more. When they go home, they’re excited to come to school the next day. Activities that get students moving can keep them engaged and provide an outlet for their pent-up energy. Getting students up out of their chairs makes learning or reviewing content fun and more memorable.

-MO

Art engages students and gives them an outlet to express their creativity and emotions. Both children and adults can take what they are feeling and channel it into artistic mediums, this helps them feel empowered and in control of their outside world. Second, art is fun! And fun within our schools can stretch a long way, it will help students get excited about other subjects such as math projects or book reports, and make these task seem less "boring". It has also been proven that we remeber information better when we associate it with song or movement.
Rachel McArdle

The two reasons I believe that the arts should be integrated into education is that it gets the students engaged into the learning and the other reason is it gives students the ability to express themselves. The first reason being it gets students engaged, we can go back to enactive learning and how it is important to learn with this method during the early years in education. We can incorporate music to get the students dancing and you can teach them about different subjects such as math while doing so. For example, you could get students dancing to a song and then ask them to answer a math problem by hopping that many times for the correct answer. It is a fun way to do math and students will be eager to participate in a unique way of learning. The second reason being students are able to express themselves in a fun environment. Everyone learns differently and I feel the arts can help bring out the best in each student. For example, some students like to dance and they can express their best results when the lesson is being incorporated with a dance. It is important for every student to be involved in each lesson and I feel that the arts and music really bring out the most out of the students.
Christian Contreras

Based on our readings, class discussions, and my own background, arts has not only helped me improve my creative skills in every aspect, but it has allowed me to establish a sense of leadership, workmanship and cognitive functions that I learned when I was a children. That is why it is imperative to keep arts in education. It helps children develop their creativity skills. If we, for example, use music, it will allow children to work together in ensembles, both improving their communication and team work skills. This field similarly expands across all other forms of arts. Theater, for example, allows children and students to develop communication skills and responsive functions through acting and writing. Art allows students to draw and let their creativity flow through a thinking act of drawing. My second reason why arts should be integrated in education is the joy it can bring to children and students. Arts is a form of creativity through talent. It allows children to develop a talent that they can both enjoy and work along their lives. Every student should have the right to be taught arts so that they can enjoy their time at school and allow them to express themselves as they wish.

-Christian Monge

Thus far, in our class, we have learned numerous reasons why the arts should be integrated into a student’s education. When the arts are combined with the core subjects like English, math, and science, it offers a student a well-rounded curriculum throughout their education. Within a curriculum, the arts and the core subjects can be integrated and taught at the same time, creating more engaging and dynamic lessons for students. These kinds of experiences can help facilitate the discovery of creativity, identity, and self-expression within a student. When the arts are integrated into education, it can help expedite a student’s cognitive development. Arts integration aids in developing many cognitive skills, such as attention control, planning, collaboration, and critical thinking. Lastly, when the arts are integrated into the curriculum, it is just all-around fun for both the students and the teacher!

~KK

When students are introduced to the arts in their education they are expanding their creativity which influences them to develop creative problem solving skills. When students are faced with problems, they will become intrigued and create a positive mindset approach. Music can be incorporated in classrooms to introduce new cultures. This is important because students can become familiar with different sounds from different parts of the world. Students will then get a deep perspective and introduction of the multicultural world we live in. But more importantly, art is fun for students and gives them their own self identity with willingness to enhance many aspects of learning.
VG

One of the reasons I believe the arts should be integrated into education is because of the diversity of students that we get in any school. Not every child will grow up to do something based on what they learned in Math, Science, English, etc. Introducing and teaching the arts is important because this might be the first time students find what they are passionate about. This may include singing, dancing, playing an instrument, painting and so much more. Even if it just introduces them to a new hobby, it can be really good for the child. The other reason to integrate arts is because is gives them a new perspective. It shows the students that you can learn in more ways than just worksheets and tests. It adds another element to school that not every child will get.
-BH

I believe that the arts should be integrated into education because the arts provide a whole new perspective to student learning. The arts offer a way to teach core subject material through a whole new lens, which increases understanding of the subject matter for many students. For example, singing songs or dancing about the periodic table they are learning about in science class can help more kinesthetic learners understand the material better where they otherwise would not have that opportunity. The arts also get students thinking creatively, and getting up and moving in a way that many other subjects can not. Many children are very positively affected by having arts programs in their schools; it can be the reason that they stay in school altogether. Students can realize their true potential or find what they are passionate about if we provide them the creative outlet to do so.

KB

The arts should be integrated into education since it provides students with a creative and complex concept. Through dance, students can become creative by expressing themselves in ways they has never thought of. For example, in the classroom we were given movements with feelings to act which makes the students think of new ways to be creative. Just the way students move through dance makes them think of new ways to put their own creativity into a move. Another reason is the arts can be complex and this allows students to learn different ways. Such as learning numerous songs, chants, and dances. Furthermore, in music they learn rhythm ,form, harmony, and melody and that allows them to think more in depth about music.
-J.S

There’s no reason why art shouldn’t be integrated into schools. The benefits are endless, but the most important one I believe is that art makes connections in our brains that just reading words off of the page does not. I know music for me in particular has helped me with many things, including the alphabet, the 50 states, the quadratic formula, and many other things. Art also makes school less dull! Just reading textbooks and listening to lectures is not engaging, and the students can easily lose passion. Students need that extra stimulation to be present in the classroom.

-ZJ

I believe the arts should be integrated in to education because it is a great way for students to express themselves in creative ways, such as through movement, music, art, etc. I also believe that the arts helps students develop skills such as coordination. The arts helps students be more creative and imaginative. The arts does not have to be expensive or difficult. Giving them a chance to relax and have fun by participating in the arts is easy and important for students of any age.

VL

Music should be integrated in education because it is a multifaceted tool. It can help with memorization, developing motor skills and body coordination, relaxation and more. It does not only teach school subjects to students, but it can also teach them things about themselves through expression and creativity by dancing or even by making up lyrics and stories that go along with melodies.
-A.M.

I believe that the arts should be integrated into education because it causes students to be more creative and it can become a great way to teach a lesson to the class. Implementing arts into the classroom only provides positive benefits. Creativity though music, dance, song, and drawing can help a student increase their imaginations and even improve their cognitive and social skills. Arts in the classroom can be transitioned into a math, science, social studies, and English lesson. It not only makes learning more exciting for the students, but if the lesson is engaging, then there is more of a chance for the students to understand the lesson faster. All in all, there are multiple ways a teacher can implement arts into a school day no matter the lesson, and considering all of it’s benefits, why not have art integrated into education.
-Rhea B.

Personally, I’m elementary school I became more involved into a class lesson when arts were being brought into the lesson. Also,
It allows students to express themselves by thinking more creative and using their imagination. Arts allows students to think in a more creative way which allows them to be more invested into what they are learning in their academic classes.
K.C -Kelsey Chriss

First and for most, it has been proven that the schools that offer the Arts scored better on tests than schools with out the Arts. The fact that there are so many schools who have this knowledge and yet they still choose to cut Art programs from school. I am at my most creative mind set when I am listening to music. I am a perfect example of how our readings (and many readings from other classes) explained that the Arts help with students being creative. When students are creative they are most likely having fun. The students get to decide some things on their own when they are being creative.
TS

I believe we should keep arts in elementary schools because it gives students an opportunity to be creative and to learn by different methods. With integration of music and math students can learn to count by counting beat measures. It gives students a different method to counting. Also with the arts students feel confident about music and dance. When students feel confident in school they will be able to participate more and have a better self esteem about school.
NS

I believe that it is extremely important for the arts to be integrated into elementary school classrooms because it allows the children to express their creativity. If we integrate the arts into math, science, or geography lessons, it can increase the students’ focus and participation overall, and it will make the lesson more engaging. Another reason why the arts should be integrated into elementary education is because it makes the classroom environment more lively and fun for everyone, including the teacher. Students always have a ton of energy so they will enjoy the activities and be more focused if teachers allow them to dance or perform in the classroom.
-M. Maize

It can help students with a different learning style have the ability to learn in their own way. In addition, it gives students an outlet to be creative in a general education classroom. By giving students the opportunity to showcase their creative side, it can help with other subjects but also make it so that each student can be different from others. Arts will also be fun for the students and make them want to learn. Arts can also help with other subjects because history can be shown their dances and music. Songs can be helpful because the students will learn new words.

CSS
