They follow a basic principle: all investors, whether an individual or a large institution, should have access to certain basic facts about an investment before buying it, and as long as they hold it. 

FINANCIAL INDUSTRY REGULATION AUTHORITY - The FINRA protects investors by making sure the US securities industry operate fairly and honestly (6.3).

FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION - The FDIC was created in 1933 after the Great Depression to restore America's trust in the banking system (6.3). The FDIC insures deposits in member banks up to $250,000. 

CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU - The CFPB aims to protect customers from deceptive financial products (6.3). They ensure consumers have the information to select the best financial services, such as with credit cards. They also can help consumers having difficulty paying their mortgage by putting them in touch with a financial counselor (6.3).
