What theory could support this implementation

The theory which could support this implementation is the Ottawa Model of Research Use (Logan and Graham 1998).

Potential adopters
A barrier which could occur is nurses and health care professionals in general having awareness of what is expected of them during a resuscitation and being able to apply that into practice. The experience and attitude of health care professionals vary in different cultural and educational contexts. Health care professional having different concerns can cause for a delay in delivery of care as they may have differences in opinion which acts as a barrier to delivering care.

Practice environment
A barrier which may occur is spacing around the bedspace and whether it can accommodate a large volume of people during a resuscitation to deliver care.
Another barrier which may occur is a resuscitation being an uncontrolled event which means it can happen at any time. For this reason, ensuring wards are properly supported with the right number of staffing to deliver this care is essential. A barrier which may occur is difference is cultural and religious beliefs from the parents which may make it difficult to deliver care as effectively.

Implementation intervention strategies & adoption
Post resuscitation nurses can support the family towards chaplaincy services, to meet the spiritual needs of both the patient and their relatives. In addition, guidance can be provided for the family such as counselling or therapy. Another intervention strategy is identifying these barriers prior to any resuscitation taking place and being aware that they exist. This allows for health care professionals to be more alert and to allow for steps to be made in advance to allow this barrier to be overcome or even prevent it from happening. Another intervention strategy which can be implemented is further training amongst staff to ensure they have the required skills to handle a resuscitation.

Outcomes
The outcome is that the families tend to be overwhelmed and require support. A great deal of family centred care needs to be implemented. Families tend to feel more supported when they know there are services in place to help them out of that situation.
The nurses who witnessed the resuscitation may need support in order to help them debrief and maintain a positive mental and emotional health from such a stressful situation. The outcome can help change the health care system and the way in which they handle resuscitation. With parents being present for the resuscitation is provides inclusive care as the family and parents are kept informed, updated and support through out the entire experience of the resuscitation and even after.
