The display encouraged informal conversations (the child looked at the display for the cars, "Wow I wonder how the racecar can go so fast..." Teacher: "It is because a race track has very little friction so the tires don't have to work so hard"

Point out words and read the words in the display

Have the child work displayed

Encourage the children to help with snack (one person passes out the napkins, another child passes out the cups, wipes up their spills)

Placing boundaries about voice level should assist with the atmosphere to become more relaxed

Model how to clean up spills, model how to use a napkin, model how to use a fork.

Introducing more materials and giving new vocabulary words (oil pastels, washable paint, acrylic paint)

Introduce themes or topics (patriotic week, summer week, color week, aquatic week)

Add more information to expand children's understanding (the height of the ramp causes the car to go faster or slower as it has more potential energy it converts to kinetic)

Encourage the children to sit back so all of the kids can see the book

Ensure the child who is having difficulty sitting down or staying quiet is next to you to give a touch warning

Have the books you read related to the lessons/themes

Discuss the book's contents (do you remember... how do you think.. is feeling)

Read books informally (read during snack, lunch, etc)

Ask questions about the children's questions (KWL make and emphasize what they child wants to know and while reading the story refer back to the children's question and ask the children if they got that answer

Point to the words you are reading out loud

Point out the words and show the picture that matches to show children what words are used for (labeling toys, show children you writing or typing a message to the parents)

Write down what the child says about the picture they drew

Sound out some words for the children so they can hear the sounds and point out letters and words and how they combine

Showing how visuals can assist with doing something (hand washing, recipes, dressing themselves or toys)
