Narrated Abu Huraira: One day while the Prophet (ﷺ ['God bless him and grant him salvation']) was sitting in the company of some people, (The angel) Gabriel came and asked, "What is faith?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, 'Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting with Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection." Then he further asked, "What is Islam?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "To worship Allah Alone and none else, to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory charity (Zakat) and to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan." Then he further asked, "What is Ihsan (perfection)?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is looking at you." Then he further asked, "When will the Hour be established?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "The answerer has no better knowledge than the questioner. But I will inform you about its portents.

1. When a slave (lady) gives birth to her master.

2. When the shepherds of black camels start boasting and competing with others in the construction of higher buildings.

And the Hour is one of five things which nobody knows except Allah. The Prophet (ﷺ) then recited: "Knowledge of the Hour [of Resurrection] belongs to God; it is He who sends down the relieving rain and He who knows what is hidden in the womb. No soul knows what it will reap tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die; it is God who is all knowing and all aware." (Surah Luqman 31:34) Then that man (Gabriel) left and the Prophet (ﷺ) asked his companions to call him back, but they could not see him. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "That was Gabriel who came to teach the people their religion." Abu 'Abdullah said: He (the Prophet) considered all that as a part of faith.

— Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī

1. Believe in Allah
2. Believe in His angels
3. Believe in His books

1. Believe in Allah
Belief in Allah is the foundation for which a Muslim’s faith is built upon. It is to believe that Allah is the only Creator, Sustainer, King, and Planner of everything in existence. Allah has mentioned in the Quran that He created man and jinn to worship Allah, the only God. In surah Hajj verse 18-20, Allah commanded human to obey Him by humble himself in service to Him and refrain from every prohibition made by Allah.

2. Believe in His Angels
It is upon the Muslim to believe that the angels exist, that they are the creation of Allah. The angels have been appointed to perform certain tasks. It is very important for Muslims to believe that every human being has two angels with him who records all of their deeds in a book, regardless of whether they are good deeds or sins.

3. Believe in His books
In Islam it is a part of faith to believe all the books that were revealed to the messengers. Muslims believe that the Qur’an was revealed by Allah to Muhammad (pbuh) through the angel Jibreel. It is important to understand that one of the reasons Allah revealed the Qur’an to mankind was to confirm the books of revelation that came before it. As Rasulullah's (pbuh) follower, we must follow the teaching of Quran.

4. Believe in His Messengers
5. Believe in the Last Day
6. Believe in preordainment

4. Believe in His Messengers
Prophets and messengers were chosen by Allah, and were sent to every nation throughout the history of mankind. Muslims believe they were commanded to call the people to worship only one God – Allah. They were also commanded to warn those who disbelieved about the punishment of Hell, and to give glad tidings to those who believed about the reward of Paradise. Allah chose the prophets and messengers as the best of examples to their nations. In surah Nuh, it tells us the journey of Prophet Nuh a.s who has preached for almost 1000 years but his followers are less than 80 people. Later, the disbeliever who don't believe in Allah and Prophet Nuh punished by Allah.

5. Believe in the Last Day
The Day of Judgment is the day when Allah judges mankind for their deeds. Every human being will be resurrected from their graves and will be given their book of deeds. They will regret the sins they committed as well as the good deeds they had missed. Believing in the Last Day includes the belief of the punishment and bliss of the grave, belief in the resurrection, belief in the judgment of the scales which will balance your deeds, and belief in Paradise and Hell.

6. Believe in preordainment
Al-Qadar is what Allah decrees for every single creation based on what has preceded in terms of His Knowledge and in accordance with His Wisdom. Belief in this pillar is to believe that everything that happens, good or bad, happens only according to Allah’s divine decree.

The purpose of salah is to remember Allah. With khusyu' we practice in salah, we can get 4 values as follows:

Taat

One of the ways we show our obedience (taat) towards Allah is through salah which has been categorised as the second pillar of Islam. When we improve the quality of salah by khusyu', we can prevent ourselves from committing sins because salah averts evil and prevents immorality.

Jihad

Jihad meaning in Arabic is striving. In Islam, jihad refers to almost any effort to make personal and social life conform with God's guidance, such as struggle against one's evil inclinations, proselytizing, or efforts toward the moral betterment of the Muslim community.

Muhasabah

Generally, muhasabah is self-reflect. Khusyu 'in salah helps us in reflecting ourselves on our deeds. it is a need to muhasabah because human are sinner and sinner needs to repent. Through muhasabah, it will remind ourselves to repent because we make mistakes everyday.

Iffah

Iffah means purity, a person who protect its dignity. Protecting oneself's dignity has been highlighted in the Qur'an and categorised as preventing immorality. Iffah will grow in someone who is focus in their salah as salah can prevent immorality in a person.

Tawadhu'

Tawadhu' is to be humble and to be aware of one's nothingness before Allah. Our action in salah shows the tawadhu' within us. For example, the act of sujood. Sujood is is the act of low bowing or prostration to facing the qiblah, when a person put their head down when performing salah.
