The Americans found out that there were spies from Communist countries that were spying on US plans. This caused distress among Americans because this could mean there were more Communist spies. They had people searching all over the US for suspicous Communist behavior. They called this the Red Scare or Red Menace because the color of the Communist flag is red.

2. Was this an open conflict or crisis: Why and explain.

I think this was both an open conflict & crisis because this involves the US and the Communists. Americans now have to keep a lookout for more spies and be extra careful about secretive important information. This would be very difficult to keep information secretive.

3. Determine if this affected the social, economic, military and political conflicts during the Cold War.

This did affect the social, economic, military and political conflicts because this caused America to be secretive of their plans preventing society and the military of knowing a lot of information. The military might know some information that society might not know. The society might know information that the military doesn't know. This could cause conflicts in trying to figure out what the other people know.
