A CITY BREAK by Isabel

My favourite type of holiday is a three- or- four- day city break in Europe. I love discovering the place and sightseeing by myself. I don't like package holidays, but sometimes, I go on a guided local tour to know more about the history of the city.
What I like most is looking for quiet restaurants far from the centre to taste real local food.
I generally explore lively street and food markets but I hardly ever enjoy nightlife because at the end of the day I'm exhausted!
I think this type of holiday is exciting and entertaining because you always learn something new. However, you need a lot of energy because sightseeing is tiring and quite often the landmarks are crowded.
What about you? Write a short text or record an audio with your ideas.

My last trip was a year ago. I went to Marrakesh to spend the Christmas holidays. It was an amazing experience. I stayed in a typical bed and breakfast called riad in the middle of the Medina. The atmosphere there was completely different from a town in Spain. The streets were crowded, there was a lot of chaotic traffic and noises, smells. I particularly loved the colours. The locals were really kind, although sometimes it was a bit stressful because they were trying to sell you something all the time.
I also went on a trip to the Atlas mountains where I could see parts of the dessert and little villages.
If you want to experience something different I recommend you to visit Marrakesh!

For Christmas last year I went to London with two friends . We took a flight from Porto to Gartwick airport on January 1st.
The first day we bought the London Pass, a card wich we could enter all the monuments for free for three days , the tourist bus and a boat trip on the river Thames .
Everyday we chose a different route on the subway to see more places.
It was very cold but it didn't rain . Our great surprise was when it was dark at four in the afternoon and it was night at five .
We visited the main monuments of the city , we took a lot of photos and we walked through Parliamente Square, Picadilly, Trafalgar Square... we went into some stores in Oxford Street and we bought souvenirs at the Christmas markets .
We saw wonderful views of the city from the London Eye and The Shard.
We also had a lot of fun at Madame Thussaud or taking photos with different snowmen located near the river Thames.
As it was Christmas, the city was decorated with thousands of lights and giant Christmas trees . In hyde Park we toured Wonderland Park and the big lake iluminated at night.
We live five intense days in London , we hope to return to this great city because there are many other things we want to see. Manuela Garrido.

The best trip I've ever had on my all life was when I went to India. I spend 15 days in the north and 15 days in the south. Everything was fantastic but the best of all was the food. The food was delicious and really spicy. The fruit was tasty.
The physical condition of the cows made me very sad. They were very skinny, by contrast, the elephants and dromedaries were well cared for. What about the monkeys? They are really dangerous, smart and bad.

All streets were crowded, chaotic and full of trash, but in the middle of that the people were stress-free...
The most amazing monument was the Taj Mahal. It's impossible to describe it in words. You have to see it and admire its great beauty. Another place that has struck me was Varanasi and its river Ganges. It is really true all that is told about the river.
So, if you are the kind of person who likes strong contrast. Your next destination should be India.

Verónica Argibay.
