After the success of Brown vs Board of Education, the nation saw a transformed America.

The legal victory in Brown did not transform the country overnight, and much work still remains to this day. The decision gave hope to millions of American's by permanently discrediting the legal rationale underpinning the racial caste system that had been endorsed or accepted by governments at all levels since the end of the 19th century.

Now, schools are not segregated and blacks are free to attend the same school as whites no matter where in the country.

Research shows that 'racial segregation in the country's 100 biggest school districts, which serve the most students of color, has increased by 64% since 1988. Economic segregation, or the division between students who receive free or reduced lunch and those who do not, increased by 50% since 1991." (Cineas Fabiola Vox.com)

Segregation is not increasing because of shifting demographics, in most large districts, housing segregation and racial economic inequality declined. Tackling the issue will mean taking an approach that voluntary integration programs, socioeconomic-based student assignment policies, and choosing policies that affirmatively promote integration.

There was hyper segregation before Brown vs Board of Education and not just in schools. Although Brown vs Board of Education overturned segregation, that did not completely end hyper segregation.

In Clark's article "70 years after Brown, too many U.S. schools remain hypersegregated and unequal", she explains that "40% of America's more than 1,700 school districts are hyper segregated, where at least three quarters of students are from low income households." When hypersegregation takes place, it affects students and make it harder for them to learn because they are denied the resources they need to succeed.

Segregation academies came to be after the ruling of Brown vs Board of Education where "many white people pivoted to a new tactic, one that is lesser known and yet profoundly influences the Black Belt region today: They created a web of hundreds, perhaps thousands, of private schools to educate white children and are still operating" (Jennifer Berry Hawes prepublication.org)

These academies are detrimental to society and go against everything Brown vs Board of Education fought for.

According to Soloff's article "North Carolina schools are segregated while the states become more diverse, "In North Carolina, one in four Black students and nearly one in five Hispanic students now attend 'an intensely segregated school of color' defined as schools that are 90-100% nonwhite students." Although it succeed in court that doesn't mean it is fully success across the nation.

Ford feels as though housing desegregation was the least successful.

Black teachers support student learning and social and emotional development of children of color in ways that lead to better outcomes. Although, the teacher workforce remains stubbornly white dominated.

The nation faces a massive teacher shortage, but no shortage of potential teachers of colors.

Brown vs the Board of Education was a real turning point for African American student education. With the passing of Brown vs the Board of Education, it meant that African American students could no longer be discriminated against when deciding where they want to get their education from. After the long era of segregation in the United States, the passing of Brown vs the Board of Education was a real turning point to begin rebuilding the trust that had been long broken among the nation.

In many ways, this set forth a new pathway for present day education. In this new age, African American students as well as students of all races could sit together in the same school and receive the same education regardless of their race.

In many ways we are still not where we need to be as a nation when it comes to discrimination not only in schools but in the world around us. There are still schools that discriminate and segregate African American students, but we as a nation need to band together to fight in the same way Brown vs the Board of Education did to continue to keep schools non segregated so our children can learn to love one another regardless of their race.
