I think that mandatory voting should not be a thing. I would rather have people that actually want to vote and are educated voters voting instead of the average Joe Shmoe who doesn't know anything about the candidates. I think that if everyone had to vote then people would purposely not vote just because they need to go against the law. Also I feel like there wouldn't be any way that they could enforce people to vote and what consequence they would get for not voting. Finally, some people who don't want to vote will just vote for people with no chance at winning so it would basically be a wasted vote anyway.

I believe that voting should be mandatory. I believe this because voting is what makes our government a democracy and not a dictatorship. If all of the citizens in a democracy voted we would be able to see how the entire country feels about a certain issue, not just half of the population. Overall, I think that voting should be mandatory.

Voting should not be mandatory, as people who go to vote do so willingly and tend to have the knowledge on the candidates they are voting for. If voting were mandatory, many votes would be casted by people who did not care about politics and elections would be decided upon whether a candidate had a "R" or a "D" next to their name. With that poor style of voting, most, if not all, elections would contain severe bias and have the same political party win over and over again.

Voting should not be mandatory for one key reason. If people were forced to vote, they might not choose the best candidate for the position, as they are not actually participating in politics by just merely choosing a candidate. Instead of forcing citizens to vote, they should be either a well-informed voter or not vote at all because not voting at all is better than forced voting, having no participation in politics.

I think voting should be mandatory. That is it should be mandatory in order to see our voting turnout rise, instead of having our current low turnout for our country overall. With the forcing of voting we would perhaps see what kind of policies the people of our country truly want. But this also may go the other way as well because ill informed people may vote randomly which in the end will throw off the election entirely and we will not have the accurate person that we want to represent and make decisions for our country. Not to mention what would the penalty then be if people still did not show up to vote, and so in essence it would remove our freedom of choosing to vote and using our privilege, and instead making it more of a chore which may also aggravate people further. When people get aggravated they may stop caring all together and vote on purpose to throw the election off. But by forcing people to vote it may also perhaps get more people to seriously choose someone who they believe should run the country as well as learning about what is going on in their country so they may make a well informed answer.

Voting should not be mandatory due to the fact that as an American you are allowed to make your own choices. And when your ability to make the choice of voting is taken away you no longer experience freedom of choice. Furthermore, by making everyone vote you may have a large group of people who dodge voting simply because they may not take the mandatory voting seriously.

While I believe it is a right that everyone receives and it is our responsibility as United States citizens to capitalize upon this right, making voting mandatory would put our rights in jeopardy. Also, I personally do not believe that some people, especially those who are uninformed or disinterested in the politics of our country, should be forced to vote. I believe more people should educate themselves and partake in government, but I disagree with forcing them to do so.

No, voting should not be mandatory. People may vote without having any knowledge of the issues or candidates. They may make poor or random decisions. If someone does not care who runs the government and does not currently vote, it does not make sense to force them to do so. Only those who care about their country enough to go out and vote should make a decision.

Voting should not be mandatory because if it was, that means every citizen would have to vote, including those who have little to none political efficacy. With no involvement and no knowledge in how the political system works, voting would be pointless. Those with high political efficacy and want to vote, will vote. It is an important responsibility, but voting is not meant for everyone. Each citizen has their own right and will to vote, it is a choice for one to make, not for the government to make for them.

Voting should be mandatory because it gives us a true representation of what our country wants. It should be mandatory because it gives us more voter turnout, therefore making the election more true. Without the majority of the country voting then we do not have a good representation of how our country feels at a certain time. Mandatory voting would show the government the way we would prefer to be governed. Voting also makes our country a democracy and not a dictatorship. Voting is currently a responsibly of the American people but it should be made a duty for all that can.

Voting should not be mandatory for citizens. If it were mandatory, many of the votes would be pointless and not honest because the people who do not care, do not want to vote, are not informed, and do not trust politics will just put a random vote in because they simply do not care or do not want to vote. This might result in a corrupt candidate being chosen as president and could hurt America's bright future.

I believe voting should not be mandatory. What would be the consequence of not voting? There is that issue that would have to be attended to. You will have many more uninformed voters voting as well. There would be people walking in and just randomly selecting a candidate just because it would be mandatory to do so. Plus if people wanted to vote they would. There may also be some kind of reason that they are not voting. Voting is a choice. To me, forcing people to vote is pretty pointless.

Voting should not be mandatory. While it is true that voting is the foundation of our government, it is better for those who are uneducated on the matters of the election to avoid voting rather than randomly voting for the wrong candidate. Voting is important, but having many voting for the wrong candidate negates the positive effect their vote could have. If it is required, people will stop caring about voting simply because it's another thing the government says that you have to do. Voting should be left to the individuals that choose to do so to ensure that the right decisions are made.
