Supply chain vulnerabilities have emerged as another critical issue, particularly highlighted by disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic. China's reliance on imported components starkly contrasts with its previous focus on self-sufficiency. Building resilient supply chains to withstand global disruptions has become essential.

Secondly, it enhances the global competitiveness of China. Achievements in education are crucial for fostering innovation and research capabilities that can compete on a global scale. The increasing numbers of Chinese students studying abroad reflect a desire to gain international qualifications and experiences, enhancing China's global competitiveness.

Thirdly, it gives China national pride and identity. Educational success is often linked to national pride, as high academic achievements in international

assessments can enhance China's image on the world stage.The government promotes educational achievements as a reflection of national strength and progress, aligning with broader political goals.

2. What role do you believe government policies have played in driving improvements in educational quality and access in China?

Government policies have played an important role in significantly improving the quality and access to education in China. 

Regarding the quality of education, China has increased its investment  in education, through funding infrastructural development, teacher training and educational resources. With enhanced financial support, facilities and teaching materials can be improved, contributing to higher education quality. Regarding access to education, the Nine-year compulsory education policy in China has helped China achieve universal primary education. It enables students over six years old nationwide to get free education at both primary schools (grade 1 to 6) and junior secondary schools (grade 7 to 9), reducing illiteracy rate. China also subsidised rural students and impoverished families to allow greater access to education. 

3. What did the Chinese government publish in order to strengthen the foundation of education in China? 

They published the Decision of the Reform of Education System of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (中共中央關於教育體制改革的決定) in May 1985 to strengthen the foundation of education in China and also to unleash the potential of universities in China.

On the other hand, the use of AI has lead to the some job displacement, as AI technologies have begun to replace certain roles, particularly in clerical and customer service positions, leading to job losses in these areas. Moreover,

the fast-evolving nature of AI requires workers to engage in lifelong learning to stay competitive, which can be a significant burden for many. Last but not least as AI favors individuals with advanced skills, there may be a growing divide between those who can adapt and those who cannot, exacerbating inequality in the job market.
