Overpopulation refers to a country or area housing an excessive number of citizens; it can contribute to a myriad of national issues including food shortages, unemployment and strained healthcare. Solving overpopulation is best handled by national and international governments and organisations. Access to contraception and female education are there main contributors to overpopulation. Governments and organisations can tackle the underutilization of contraception by providing cheap and readily available products and comprehensive sex education, especially for countries with a high fertility rate like those in Africa. Providing female education is more difficult as it requires a change in social and cultural beliefs for some, but viable steps include legislating free, part-time and discreet (in situations including violent conflicts and repression) schools for all. 

An ageing population is also a pressing issue. It refers to when the median average rises as fertility rates drop and life expectancy increases. This leaves a nation with an underproductive economy and a pressured younger generation.
