The Love Nest is an old love song that uses elements of blues music. The song is about a building that was built for love and made by love. It is implied that two lovers built the love nest.

Significant Lyrics:
"Now as well as then
Ancient Jack and Jill are gone,
Yet return again."

Context/Significance:
Fitzgerald included this song in the story because it symbolizes the old, perfect relationship that Gatsby and Daisy had when they originally met before the war. It also makes a point that the characters have changed during the time that they were separated which is told through the lyrics, "Ancient Jack and Jill are gone,". The song's most important lyric is, "Yet return again," which symbolizes how Daisy and Gatsby are back together again even after all those years that they were separated. This creates an optimistic mood as Gatsby finally got to meet his lover after so long and this made him believe that he could recreate his happy past.

Beale Street Blues is a blues style song with some elements of ballad that was popular in that time period. It is about the state of hopelessness that Beale Street is in when the song was written.

Significant Lyrics:
"I'm goin' to the river, maybe by and by,
Yes, I'm goin' to the river, maybe by and by,
Because the river's wet, and Beale Street's done gone dry!"

Context/Significance:
Fitzgerald included this song in the story because it symbolizes a hopeless situation that Daisy is in as she wants to marry Gatsby, but she is being pressured by her parents to marry soon even though Gatsby has left to fight in the war. Due to not knowing whether he'll come back or not, Daisy gives into the pressure and she marries Tom. Daisy has chosen to marry out of necessity which gives off a depressed mood as Daisy is forced to do something she didn't want to do all because she was being pressured to just move on.

Three O'Clock in the Morning is a waltz song that has a romantic mood as it about dancing with someone you love and you want to continue to dance with them no matter what the time is.

Significant Lyrics:
"There goes the three o'clock chime, chiming, rhyming
My heart keeps beating in time
Sounds like an old sweet love tune
Say that there soon will be a honeymoon"

Context/Signifcance
Fitzgerald includes this song in order to help the reader understand what Daisy is thinking about while this song is playing. Daisy is not content during this part of the story and it is implied that she is missing something in her life which is represented by the lyrics, "Sounds like an old sweet love tune. Say that there soon will be a honeymoon." Daisy is missing romance in her life and she is hoping that some sort of miracle will happen so that her dream can finally become a reality. Fitzgerald wants us to know that Daisy misses the days that she was with Gatsby and she wants that romance back one way or another. The song creates a melancholy mood because Daisy is not happy due to the lack of romance in her life.

Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now is a rock song that is about building a dream together with your lover and how nothing will stop the lovers from achieving everything.

Significant Lyrics:
"Looking in your eyes I see a paradise
This world that I found is too good to be true...
Don't ever look back...
And we can build this dream together"

This song relates to The Love Nest by John Steel as both relate to the reunion of Gatsby and Daisy. The lyrics imply that these two were living in a perfect world while they were together in 1917. The second part of the lyrics represents the optimistic mood Gatsby had as he finally reunited with Daisy and it also symbolizes his dream of recreating that perfect world that he had with Daisy before the war and he wants to stay with Daisy to help him recreate this perfect world that they once had. This song creates an optimistic mood as Gatsby really believes that he can get Daisy to be with him again so that they can live together happily ever after like they originally planned.

Dreams is a rock song about a person that is troubled because they feel a feeling they felt before due to meeting a 'special' person that gave them that feeling in the past. It is implied that this person longs to have this feeling again.

Significant Lyrics:
"And oh my dreams, it's never quite as it seems
Never quite as it seems
I know I've felt like this before, but now I'm feeling it even more
Because it came from you."

This song relates to the symbolism of Three O'Clock in the Morning as they both represent the feeling of lost love that is felt by Daisy. Daisy listens to Three O'Clock in the Morning to remember those feelings she had while Dreams represents how Daisy is feeling as she listens to Three O'Clock in the Morning. Daisy knows that she felt this romantic feelings before and she wants to feel them again because she believes that this will make her happy once more. Dreams also creates the melancholy mood from Three O'Clock in the Morning as it describes the emptiness that Daisy is feeling because of the lack of romance.

Music is often made to give out a message. Many songs can either motivate you, make you feel happy, or even get rid of your stress. F. Scott Fitzgerald knew this and he uses songs in his novel, "The Great Gatsby" in order to symbolize the situation that a character is in while a particular song is being played. It gives the scene more context and it gives hints on what a character is like in terms of personality. This is why it is so important to recognize the songs that are put into the story.

The One that Got Away by Katy Perry

The One that Got Away is about how one woman's life could have been different had she stayed with the person that got away.

Significant Lyrics:
"In another life, I would make you stay
So I don't have to say you were the one that got away
The one that got away"

This song relates to Beale Street Blues' because they both give the depressing mood that was given when Daisy was forced to marry someone out of convenience instead of marrying someone she truly loved. Beale Street Blues plays in this part of the story to help set the depressing mood as Daisy begins to lose faith in Gatsby as it looks like he is not coming back. Her hope of him coming back is now gone and she moved on. The One that Got Away describes the situation directly as Gatsby was the one that got away for Daisy. He was her true love, and the hopeless mood of not being able to change anything in the past to improve life is given by this song. Both songs in the end give the message that Daisy has moved on due to losing hope in Gatsby returning from the war.
