As an early childhood educator, it's important to remember that development happens in a child's own way/time. The "a-ha" moment happens for everyone at a different time (whether it's learning to read, write, solve math problems)

Growth mindset should be a daily practice -- instill at a young age that will carry on with them through their whole lives.\

After participating in the CTTL experience, it reiterated to me the importance of cycling information and revisiting it often to strengthen brain synapses and expand the overall retention of material from students. I am excited to begin building a library of retrieval grids as part of our Orton Gillingham program at FHCDS for both whole group and small group settings.

Additionally, I was encouraged by the multisensory and language acquisition programming that we currently use for reading instruction. It was encouraging to me that we are using best practice methodology to support all of our students when it comes to reading.

My take away was that spatial reasoning helps with math learning. I plan on having a spatial reasoning center this year and adding some materials to help in this area.

One of my biggest reminders was the importance of prior knowledge and making connections to the students' daily lives - knowing the difference between "real world" and "their world". I also have to be mindful of my students' cognitive load and think of creative ways to reduce their working memory needs.
