I was surprised to find that IDEA was passed in 1975, which is rather recent in US history. Furthermore, the concept of inclusive education was developed even more recently. I aim to follow this model when I become an educator, and I hope that I can contribute in making students from all backgrounds feel welcomed and engaged in the classroom.

Normally, people would just assume they're the same things with one of them having more weight, but that's not true at all. It was nice to really learn and see the differences of the two plans with the examples provided for us to learn off of. Now, I have a better understanding of modifying lesson plans for that specific child (or children) and feel confident that my modifications will really help the child learn.

We have learned about many equitable practices and how to support our students and challenge them to the best of their abilities. Overall, I learned that not every student learns the same way, regardless if they have the same disability. Every student is unique and has unique learning needs. It is important for educators to get to know WHO their students are and WHAT works best for them individually. Then, design and implement curriculum that supports the needs of all learners.

I learned young people want to be challenged and held accountable and we as adults at times hold back from challenging them because we do not want them to fail especially our students who have special needs. They come to us many times already being put down and made fun of and our job should be about allowing them to be the best person they can be without any restrictions. All students do not learn the same way or at the same pace .
