1. Stubborn - Page 72 " MAMA: " Walter, what's the matter with you?"
WALTER: " Matter with me? ain't nothing the matter with me !"

This shows how Walter won't admit that something is bothering him, even though it is. Walter frequently shows this kind of attitude throughout the book. He believes that no one understands him and he keeps his feelings to himself in parts of the book. This is an example of being stubborn.

greedy: pg 105
Throughout this whole page, Walter is complaining about how he should've gotten the money. It isn't directly saying it, but the reader can tell that this is the reason why he is upset. This shows that Walter is being greedy. Later you find out he gave the money to Willy Harris, who ran off with it.

My personal opinion of Walter is that he is sort of childish, and sulks when he doesn't get what he wants. He doesn't think things through when he does things, and honestly i wouldn't care if anything happened to him. While i was playing his part I just realized how much of a bad person he was. If you think about it, he doesn't really care about anyone else but himself.

He doesn't want his mom to have the life insurance money, he wants it for himself to open a liquor store. As we later find out, Walters greed got him into hot water, because he was supposed to put the money mama gave him in the bank, but Walter being the greedy person he is, gave his money to Willy Harris to invest in the liquor store. Willy Harris then took all the money and left town.

5. A poem that relates to my character

Maybe the reason Walter feels greedy is because he feels a void. Maybe he feels as if he is missing something, and money could be it. He never made a lot of money, so he most likely feels that he needs money to be a man.

7. Why the lyrics relate to Walter

I picked this song because in the song, it says the lyrics "Cash rules everything around me, Cream get the money, dolla dolla bill y'all!" This is the mindset walter has. He thinks that if he has money, all his problems will be solved. What he doesn't take into account is the fact that racism still exists and is still a problem. Walter frequently says in the book that he doesn't feel like the man because he is a chauffeur who barely makes any money. He also doesn't think about his situation with his family, which is a huge problem. Money can't fix everything, and he fails to realize that.

8. Theme and Quote that relates to A Raisin in the Sun

I feel as if the theme of this novel is change. If you read the novel, you will find that Walter is very greedy and childish in the ways he acts. He acts like this throughout most of the novel. How does he change? He doesn't take the bribe money from Lidner. For the first time he does something that his family wants, and is probably for the best of them. He doesn't consider himself only. He thinks about his mother, his wife, sister, and child. Yes, they will be moving into a white neighborhood, but he for once is fighting the system. He is fulfilling his mothers "dream" of a stand against segregation. His mother thinks that if he takes the bribe money, he won't be the man he wants to be.

A quote that relates to the novel is, "Sometimes, you must give up something you love, for the people you love." As we have seen, Walter was committed to opening a liquor store. That's all he wanted. He was devastated when Mama used the money for a house. However, he gave up his dream for his family. Although it was hard for him to let it go, he ended up on good terms with his family, and that's all that matters. Family always has your back, no matter what, and in the end, it's those moments with your family that made your life so special.
