It occurs naturally in soil and commonly affects domestic and wild animals around the world. People can get sick with anthrax if they come in contact with infected animals or contaminated animal products. Some of the symptoms of the Anthrax disease are: fever and chills, swelling of the neck or neck glands, sore throat, painful swallowing, hoarseness, nausea and vomiting (especially bloody vomiting), diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, headache, and many more. Anthrax is acquired by breathing in spores, eating food or drinking water that is contaminated with spores, or even getting spores in a cut or scape in the skin. This happens when you come in contact with infected animals or contaminated animal products that have the Anthrax disease. The main people at risk are people who are in contact with animals. For example, veterinarians, farmers, livestock producers, and others who handle animals and animal products may have an increased risk of exposure. Most people who get sick from anthrax are exposed while working with infected animals or products such as wool, hides, or hair. Some may wonder how to prevent this disease, well the only way to prevent it is to get the Anthrax vaccine. It is only available to people between the ages 18 and 65 who work in high-risk professions. There is a treatment for the Anthrax disease if seen by a doctor. The standard treatment is an antibiotic such as Ciprofloxacin, Doxycycline or Levofloxacin.
