Teen girls cause chaos

The same girls that started to act strange from Tituba's antics would accuse others for witchcraft. They would accuse the poor and already suspected, and when in the court room they would act strange to make the accused look guilty. They soon after started to accuse people that weren't believed to be witches, then people started to not believe what these girls said. A lot of people assumed they faked it, and did this either out of boredom or for attention. Whether they faked it or not, there are still some unexplainable things that occurred during court trials, like how they were cold to the touch and had scratch marks appear out of nowhere.

Puritan's way of living was very simple, they dressed, ate and spoke simply. They believed in Total Depravity, that everyone is born a sinner, and no matter said person did could change that. However, they also believe in Predestination, that only the chosen ones of God could be saved. The problem with this was no Puritan was certain that they were chosen or not, this way of thinking caused constant stress and worry for puritans, which they always had to hide.

Witch Tests

When someone was accused of witchcraft, the court would often strip them for any "witch marks". If they found a suspected mark, they would pierce it to see if it would bleed or if the person would feel pain. If it bled or the person felt pain, then it was not a witches mark and vice versa. Another way they would test for a possible witch was to throw them into pure water. If they sank they were not a witch, if they floated they were. Most that were tested with pure water died, they would either sink and drown, or float and get hanged as a witch.

Tituba was a slave that often watched these girls, their ages being between six and twelve. Tituba often told them stories of magic and showed them voodoo tricks. The girls grew excited yet felt guilt since the magic and spells were considered work of the devil. Soon after, the girls started to act strange, they would scream, claim that they feel bites, and pricked by pins. A doctor was called in to examine the girls to see what was wrong, but there was no physical problems them, and then from then suspected they were victims of witchcraft.

One of the main causes for witch panic was Puritan's had the belief that Satan would work in the world and would cause bad events. They also believed that they did not work alone, but that he recruited witches and wizards to work with him to help cause bad things. Puritans also believed that anything foreign or times of trouble was Satan's doing. Anyone suspected or accused of being a witch were arrested without question and put into trial. Even old feuds or grudges between neighbors can be accused of being a witch or wizard.
