Sanchit Ruia

ecocentrism is the way of life in which one prioritises nature and wishes to stop all man made activity which harms nature and is not important to our basic needs. Deep ecocentrism thinks that humans should return and once again live one with nature in forest.

Techno-centrism is the way of life in which one believes that advancements in technology will help cure the environment and will fix the issues of today. They believe in using renewable energy sources and producing machinery that produces nature friendly products.

Anthropocentrism is the way of life in which one believes that humans are the centre of all life and the earth is a gift which we can fully utilise to our wants and needs.

2). For this question I’ve taken the issue of the new Mumbai-Delhi industrial corridor which is a 12 lane expressway currently underway of production.

For a anthropocentric person this would mean that the corridor would be connecting the 2 industrial hubs of India and the subsides in the surroundings would pave way for the future growth of India. This would cut travel time and would pave way for many industries. This would increase employment and the GDP and help establish India as a global leader of tomorrow.

But at the same time an ecocentric person would see disaster. As the construction of the corridor would eradicate acres of farmland and leave farmers and their families homeless. Further they would also believe that the construction, the factories as well as the future automobiles having access to this corridor would highly pollute the environment and the output of food in the country would also lower.

3) Buddhism is a religion which believes that there exists a flow of energy in all living things and humans too should have the same amount of this energy as the things around them. They believe to do so they must live a peaceful life free of all worldly desires and be one which nature. They survive on the bare minimum and live a life which no one will envy but which will make one happy of oneself. They follow the deep ecocentric way of life.

Christianity is another religion which believes that God has gifted them Earth and that they are responsible for the welfare of this place. They are like the managers of earth and have to manager peace in all living and non living things. They follow the anthropocentric way of life.

The Gaia Theory was suggested by James Lovelock. This theory states the interaction between living organisms and the mother nature as an incredible creation and also states the terrible after math of human interference in natures activities. He suggested that the earth is self regulating and exhibits control over the homeostasis of earth . He also suggested that the living beings and earth are in a collaborative work. He also stated that the physical earth and the living beings come together to satisfy their needs and regulate conditions on earth.
